Thanks to your tremendous feedback, we completely redesigned our web site. It is now the most innovative web site for Bronxites in the world!

Some of the features on our new site have never been seen before. For the first time ever, you can now drive through your old neighborhood from anywhere in the world. After seeing how your apartment building looks today, use our Bronx Image Gallery feature to see how your apartment building looked when you lived there.

Here are some of the details about the new features on www.backinthebronx.com

Virtual Bronx Tour: Now you can take a 'virtual drive' through your old neighborhood, around your block or any block or any Bronx neighborhood. These are actual street level viewing with the ability to control your 'movement' and even make turns. It's as good as sipping an Egg Cream. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!

Old Bronx Neighborhood Pictures (Bronx Image Gallery): You will now have the ability to access over 6,000 photos that go back to the early 1900's through the 1960's. All that is needed is a street address or cross-street and you will instantly be transported back to your old neighborhood. You might even find a photo of your old apartment building as you remember it! This is the only collection of pictures online that exists anywhere in world.

· Find A Friend: Looking for a friend from the past? Maybe you can find them from our cross-referenced Bronx database of close to 150,000 names. Find them by school and even maiden name.

· Bronx Movie Theatres: Here is a chance to go back to your old neighborhood theatre where you saw those old Saturday morning cartoons. We should have your theatre because we have close to 100 of them!

To celebrate this launch, we are offering for a limited time a FREE ONE YEAR SUBSCRIPTION to Back In THE BRONX magazine for details on this offer click here.

And Much, Much, More!.......................Visit us at - www.backinthebronx.com.

So does that mean the old site will be gone? Will we be allowed to keep our old names and stuff? How much is this going to cost us?

I don't believe it has anything to do with the board, just the home site.

Hi- I haven't been Back in the Bronx in a while - so imagine my surprize when I logged onto the new site and found myself driving through Third, Bathgate, McLean, Barnabas, St. Joe's, Ryer, Belmont, 179th and Bathgate - and more for over an hour! Thank you - it's wonderful, easy to learn and boy, have things changed - on the site and in the Bronx.

The new features are great. I would like it better if there was a way to access all 6,000 photos in entire groups, blocks, or pages, like browsing through a photo album. Having to enter a street address or cross-street every time is downright tedious. I am sure there are many pictures I would miss because I did not enter a specific enough “Search Address” or “Search Keyword.” It would be fun to look at a picture first to see if I recognized it. Would it be possible to add such an option in the future? Thank you.

Hi Everyone.
This is my first post in several years. I got my magazine and read about the new web site, so I logged on, registered, and started driving around my old neighborhood (Morris Ave, etc, around 171st and 172nd St). What a great toy to play with. I found many views which haven't changed in the 58 years since I left for college in New Jersey. Most of the buildings look really nice and well-maintained, especially those facing Claremont Park. Thanks to Steve and Susan for providing this delightful tool to feed my Bronx nostalgia. Now if it could be used to take a walk through good old Claremont Park - the site of so many of my youthful activities.

Just took a drive from 181st & Crotona where my first school is (PS 57) to St. Martin of Tours, Thomas Aquinas and down Crotona to 187th and then on to Arthur AVenue. It's amazing how many buildings that I knew are still there.

MamboPete, so nice to see your name again! This is neat, isn't it? That Google thing, "driving" past your old neighborhood is weird!! BIG BROTHER HAS OFFICIALLY ARRIVED! But it was fun, too!

Johnny, PS 67 was off Crotona Parkway, a little street that parallels Tremont at So. Blvd. and is set off from it by a strip of public park. The school was used as a temporary morgue for the Happy Land fire victims.
