I joined the website this morning. When I took a "drive through the Bronx" and found my childhood apartment building, I started crying like a baby. This nostalgia thing can be emotionally draining. Seeing the kitchen windows, my parents' bedroom-- it just overwhelmed me.

Hello, Mike--

Thanks! I went to Evander Childs, 1960-1964, then CCNY, 1964-1968.

I ran into a Bronx guy yesterday at the mall (Evander also, graduated in 1960) who had a copy of "Back In The Bronx" magazine that he was giving to the Bronx born ticket taker, my buddy. I was so excited! And that's how I came to the website today and subscribed to the magazine as well.

I live in NJ now and have been re-living a whole lot of memories all day long, visiting my neighborhood, Evander, PS 103, my friends' houses, etc etc. It's very emotional--

Hope to talk again!

Linda

Class of 69 at Saint Helena HS. grew up in the Fordham area. You will enjoy the magazine, I've been subscribed for almost 3 years.

I'm sure I will enjoy it. We did all our shopping on Fordham Rd, and I worked at Alexanders--

Does anyone remember the movie "Avalon"? I'm reminded of it because of the way our typical tightknit Bronx upbringing slowly began to geographically unravel as people moved away, much like the ending of that bittersweet film.

I'm still in the Bronx, and glad to be because I like being close to family, many of whom are still here too.

If I ever do move again, it's to Vermont (or Gate of Heaven cemetery.)

Karyn, wasn't it so sad at the end...? Such a large loving family who went from early (huge) family gatherings into a few people doing different things in different rooms. Broke my heart...

I came from a very large, loving family and after the death of my parents my family has drifted far apart. We only get together for the usual wedding, or funeral. How sad this has made me. No one seems to have time to do anything. I would give so much to have 1 more big family gathering at Christmas time.
