Constructive criticism--I think your posts would be more effective if you sounded less like a pompous windbag.

Sandy, an excellent topic, and thanks for starting a dialogue on it.....

I think that constructive criticism is an healthy way to start any Forum or dialogue. I know that I fall short at times, and would appreciate if it was offered to me when necessary. I want to be respectful of other posters, but it seems that at times some other posters makes it about impossible to have a dialogue without personal criticism entering the picture.

As adults, we should ALL be open to constructive, healthy, non-toxic criticism designed to improve the dialogue.

I am open to suggestions as to how I can improve my style of conversing, and would hope that each of us is interested in having as positive an experience on BITB as possible.

Thoughts?

I think your style of conversing is fine. You're down to earth, you don't preach, despite your religious bent and if there's anything you might want to think about changing, it's getting into disputes with people who are unreasonable or just here to get into disputes. I think Sandy's reaction to what I posted seems to show that he's not interested in constructive criticism. Perhaps he wants no criticism at all, but my comment was meant to be constructive. He has lots of good things to say when he's expressing them in down to earth terms.

Bettye, that was well-appreciated and constructive criticism. Yes, I can try too hard to win over people who are not interested in hearing constructive criticism.

Perhaps I should be more content interacting with those who are open and sincere in their dialogue with others.

Thanks for your input.

Steve

I guess we have different definitions of constructive criticism as illustrated by the quote below from you response to this topic. Instead of "constructive criticism" you choose to resort to name calling. I guess you are not here for intelligent dialogue.

"pompous windbag"

This is not the place for constructive criticism. To be of value, the criticism has to come from someone you know and respect.

Here the criticisms is in the form of insults and humor. Think of the late night comedians with their "constructive " jokes.

Herb, while there are those who I would take "constructive criticism" from with a grain of salt, there ARE also a few who I respect and would therefore take criticism from with openess and sincerity.

Sandy, parse the sentence. I said "if you sounded less.." I wasn't calling you a name, just pointing out how some of your posts come across.

Just to clarify my thinking please post an illustration of my "pomposity" so that I can adjust my postings to meet with your approval.

BETTYE speaks for all who seek existencial guidence in quality posting. Bettye is the voice of posting America, the quintessential light for all to follow. I urge the brain-dead and other subversives to head Bettye's advice for the benefit of prayer and preservation...
