Norre, I believe that your last paragraph sums up my thoughts. We cannot point at one person, one group etc. I DO feel however, that deregulation and greed have have caused a large part of the mess we find ourselves in today.

The idea of allowing industry, be it production, banking etc, to regulate itself has NEVER sat well with me; not in the US, where $$$$ is the bottom line for CEO's, and others who's jobs are dependant of profit, profit, profit.

Bt definition, allowing an industry to regulate itself, is essentially putting a fox in charge of the chicken coop.

Of course, when we have politicians in bed with corporate America, that makes matters only worse, AND when we have businessmen focussing on the SHORT TERM view, shipping jobs and production overseas for the profit TODAY, we hang ourselves TOMORROW.

All of this is happening, and once again, it is a collection of attitudes, greed, self-interest and trusting business to regulate itself that put us where we are today.

INTERESTING MIC, THE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES REGULATE THEMSELVES.

SORRY TO SAY, I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY CHANGES WITH ANYBODY. IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT YOU CAN'T SPEND IT.

I SEE BANKS DOING THE SAME KINDS OF THINGS, ONLY NOW THEY ARE ALLOWED TO STEAL FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS, BY CHARGING OUTRAGEOUS FEES FOR EVERYTHING. NO DIFFERENT THAN STATE GOVERNMENTS CHARGING THEIR CITIZENS FOR EVERYTHING.THEY INVENT THINGS TO CHARGE YOU A FEE FOR, LIKE THE NEW PLATES IN NYS.

CREDIT CARD COMPANIES HAVE RAISED THEIR INTEREST RATES HIGHER THAN LOAN SHARKS WHO WERE PROSECUTED FOR THIS. THEY GET AWAY WITH IT!

IN ORDER FOR CHANGE TO OCCUR IT HAS TO START AT THE TOP, AND I DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING TOO SOON.

Big Business has used Capitalism to drive a wedge between them and the populace. Like all economic/political systems it must be monitored and not dominated by greed or a single interest. Those here who rant about governmental control seemingly refuse to acknowledge the fiasco which has resulted from the government being asleep at the switch and tacitly allowing this to happen. Too much control? Perhaps, but sometimes there is needed to oversteer when one is heading off the road.

HE is printing money like it's going out of style (and it will be, get your GOLD, quick)...

Of course it started with Bush. The initial bailouts began under Bush.

The economy is improving. For the past many months fewer and fewer people are applying for unemployment benefits.

The high unemployment rate is because profitable companies are laying off workers. Have you tried calling customer service at a company lately. The other factor is that big business is sending their jobs and factories overseas.

The reason we do not have a large manufacturing base is because our companies moved it overseas. That is why most products sold here are made in China.

Obama cannot be blamed for the crisis he inherited. While 80% of the blame lies with Bush, let's not forget the 20% share (a notional figure) belongs to Clinton. Deregulation began with his administration.

But the next meltdown will be Obama's baby. He has refused to take the necessary steps to rein in the greedy bastar ds on Wall Street. Unfortunately the merchants of greed in America own the White House and Congress no matter who occupies both branches of Govt.
