Does anyone remember having to learn square danicing in gym class?
I did in public school in the 70's.

HAHAHAHA YES, IN GRACE DODGE...
FUNNY STORY, I WAS THE ONLY WHITE KID IN THE CLASS, THE OTHER KIDS WERE NICE AND COOL TOO, THEY TEASED ME ABOUT DOING THE TARANTELLA .. ANYWAY, WE WERE PAIRED OFF INTO 4'S..AS WER'E SQUARE DANCING, ONE OF THE GIRLS STARTS BREAK DANCING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GYM ON THE FLOOR, AND THE TEACHER STARTED YELLING AND EVERYTHING AND CALLED THE PRINCIPAL...WE WERE ALL CHEERING HER ON..HAHAHAHA THAT WAS THE LAST LESSON WE HAD, WE ALL WANTED LESSONS FROM THE GIRL INSTEAD...
We did that in elementary school. We had dance, speech and art, being it was privat school but I'd end up doing the tarantella with my partner, much to the dance teacher's dismay. She didn't find it at all amusing.
Anyone have to "bow" to their partner??? I would bow, then stick my tongue out at the classmate...it was hysterical.

when I attended PS 104 all the boys had to wear a tie to school every day. If you forgot, the teacher put a crepe paper tie on you. I remember having to square dance in PE class--hated it !!I wonder if that's why I stii do not like it .

I also remember (in 3rd grade) during the annual "dance festival" our class did the MayPole Dance with the HUGE Maypole and all the streamers coming off it... round and round and round.
That MayPole stood in the corner somewhere in the school for the next three years (I "graduated" in 6th grade) and was never used again... still "wrapped" by my class. It's prob still there!
