Some quotes from one of the religious right's leading evangelists:
"The mission of the Christian Coalition is simple," says Pat Robertson. It is "to mobilize Christians -- one precinct at a time, one community at a time -- until once again we are the head and not the tail, and at the top rather than the bottom of our political system." Robertson predicts that "the Christian Coalition will be the most powerful political force in America by the end of this decade." And, "We have enough votes to run this country...and when the people say, 'We've had enough,' we're going to take over!" "You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them."--Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, January 14, 1991 "The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -- Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992 "I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/8/92 We want...as soon as possible to see a majority of the Republican Party in the hands of pro-family Christians by 1996." --Pat Robertson, Denver Post, 10/26/92 |

Dennis, that's old news. Pat Robertson, while speaking mostly the truth, is a "Televangelist" and a mulit-millionaire. I'm a Catholic and a devout Republican. I agree with some of what he says, but the rest of it is "Televangelistic" bull. He is the head of the "700 Club". I put him in a league with Jim and Tammy Faye Baker and Jerry Falwell and the rest of those would be preachers. There are people who are too lazy to go to church, so they'd rather watch it on TV. What's your point, anyway? That stuff was dated 1996 or so. Like I said, Old News! Are you trying to stress some correlation between him and Republicans today? If so, then I agree with Pat. What he preaches is from the Bible. And that's "The God's Honest Truth"!!

I recently became aware of the Dominionist Movement. Just when I thought I had a decent handle on most of the radical right winger groups out there I stumble upon this collection of hyper-fundamentalist 'christians'. They count as their members every prominent Republican in the House and Senate and, surprise, the President. And Zell Miller too.
"Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ -- to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness. But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice. It is dominion we are after. Not just influence. It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time. It is dominion we are after. World conquest. That's what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish. We must win the world with the power of the Gospel. And we must never settle for anything less... Thus, Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land -- of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ. " Will it ever end? It's getting too much like the X files!!! http://www.theocracywatch.org/ |

Don't you love how he calls other Christian denominations the Anti-Christ?

No I don't...I was kidding with this although I do agree with his first and last paragraphs. The rest is too radical for me.
|
||
|
But unless you're his brand of Christian, you're the Anti-Christ. |

That is his opinion...It doesn't make it so..I agree with some of what he says. To my knowledge..Pat will not be standing at the pearly gates to admit or deny admission to anyone. Not his call.

But he & his followers have become a big force in the republican party. If his power continues to grow, you may be a born again christian soon. |

Robertson is really a nut case and anyone whoi follows him is in the same category.
Falwell is in the hospital now with some type of respiratory ailment. |

No one can change my beliefs..no one..and I am glad he is a big part of my party. We agree on a few items that are important to me. The anti Christian agenda of the left is going to be stopped. And I don't care who or what it takes to stop it. The fact that Herb lables him a nut is meaningless.

I can understand being totally dedicated to religious and political beliefs. But...these television evangelists use their beliefs to become wealthy beyond belief. They "beg" for donations and make people feel guilty if they don't "tithe" 10% of their earnings to the Church. Going to a local Church or Synagogue or Mosque, etc., is a better reality, where you give what you can afford. My feeling is that religion and politics don't mix. Religion should be kept out of it.

If Pat Robertson has his way, his religion will be the state religion, no others allowed. I'm a liberal and a prcticing Catholic. Most of my liberal friends have absolutely no agenda against the Christian religions. Maybe you're seeing a conspiracy that isn't there? |

Liberal scare tactics Dennis, you and I both know, there will never be a " state " religion in this country. And you and others know that the president is not trying to make one either. Pure liberal bullshit.

Read his words " we're gonna take over" |

Yeah..but he can't and he knows it. And so do you. Even a die hard republican like me would not want a state religion.

No one is going to take over. I belong to a Christian Church where more than 3 quarters of the congregation voted for Kerry, lol....No, I wasn't one of them, but I thought that both choices were bad, and I stayed with what I knew.
The loudest people get the most air time, and it seems as if the far right is the majority, but they are not. I wouldn't worry about them, scary as they may be. speaking of televangelists, I love the guy in the Nehru jacket, what the hell is his name? oh oh oh Benny Hinn? lol My God, what the hell is that all about???? LOL.......He does the laying of the hands thing, and one night, he "cures" this deaf guy...Was born deaf.....he says "can you hear me? can you hear?" and the guy starts saying "yes yes ">.......If the freakin guy was deaf all of his life, how does he know what benny boy is saying? ( I do like Joel Osteen though, he seems to be honest about his beliefs, and non judgmental) As for most of the others, all I can say is "Jesus Wept"... |
