Abortion...choose..choose..choose.. It is a woman's right to choose.
This is a very heated subject: I was born and raised a Roman Catholic. Who the F**k is the Catholic Church to say no abortion even if a pregnancy resulted from a rape!! No divorce, even if a spouse is abussive, give me a friggin break. Where are these bastards...yes I said bastards when you need them? I was sent to Catholic School, my mother threw out my father and then she went to the CATHOLIC school to ask for assistance in paying my tuition...we all know what the answer to that one was...NO. There is plenty of birth control out there yes...but according to Catholics there is only abstineance and the rythum method. And the only protection against aids is condoms. I like the idea of sterilize the baby factories. And the govt. (medicaid) shouldn't be paying for all this either. Were raising pigs...creepy kids who like to rack up the numbers in how many different chicks they had babies with...You get my drift. Send the creeps to back alley abortions and see what it is like..get infected and die!!, like the old days. So true never debate politics and religion. I am sick of all this nonsense every time there is a new "REGIME" we have to worry about Roe V Wade. |

Damn, this debate about wether or not abortions are good will never end.
I belive abortions should be legal. Lets say your having sex and the condom breaks, we are all human. You can't get a morning after pill so time passes. You find out shes pregnaunt, your both too young to support a baby. You want to at least finish high school, your nervious about whats going to happen. Sometimes an abortion is the only way. If we left it up to the church, shooting off your balls would be a sin becuase they have sperm. A lot of people make mistakes, we are only human. Abortion can be the difference in the life you live. Me i'm pro choice, this shouldn't be used as a birth control. However, if you really cannot have a child at this point in your life and you are pregnaunt, go ahead and get an abortion. |

Yes I am a parent, 2 girls and 2 boys. All in their twenties. So I've been there, and I was sexually active when I was younger, and I went got on the pill. And I highly support condom use, not only for birth control but because in todays society with sexual disease transmission, it is only appropriate to do so. Let me ask you this....do you think abortion was as prevalant when it wasn't legal. Yes, I know that there were botched abortions done, but do you think there were literally thousands done a day? Do you think it was used as a method of birth control like it is today? Do you know that ob/gyn's actually have a procedure called menstrual extraction, that means getting cleaned out before the 8th week of pregnancy, and do you know how many women do that once a month, and its not considered an abortion? Why, because a pregnancy test is not required. If this is progress and enlightenment then send me back in time...please.

Since no one was able to keep statistics on illegal abortions in the 1950's & 1960's there are no actual numbers, but I found the following statistics online:
Estimates of the annual number of illegal abortions in the 1950's and 1960's range from 200,000 to 1.2 million. In 1969, one year before New York State legalized abortion, complications from abortions accounted for 23 percent of all pregnancy-related admissions to municipal hospitals in New York City. After California liberalized its abortion law in 1967, the number of admissions for infection resulting from illegal abortion at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center fell by almost 75 percent. In 1965, when abortion was still illegal nationwide except in cases of life endangerment, a minimum of 193 women died from illegal abortions, and illegal abortion accounted for nearly 17 percent of all deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth in that year. In 1973, the risk of dying from an abortion was 3.4 deaths per 100,000 legal abortions. This rate fell to 1.3 by 1977. For the 5 years ending in 1991 the risk of dying from a legal abortion had decreased to 0.6 per 100,000 legal abortions. |

Estimates run from 200,000 to 1.2 million...thats quite a stretch! As for the rest of the statistics, I don't doubt that those problems exisited, but I still believe with the advent of a multitude of birth control devices, that number would go down significantly. But look everyone is entitled to their opinions, as for me I'll stick with mine, it makes me sleep better at night.
