I remember seeing outfielders disappear behind the monuments chasing long fly balls.

Mike, I remember once seeing a catch behind the Lou Gehrig Monument, although I cannot recall who hit the ball, or whether it was a Yankee in the field or at bat; either way, it was a long ball!!!
THe old Stadium was a legend in itself. Dead center was a trainride from home plate! What memories, especially of Mick hobbling out there in the later years. I remember the sadness I felt seeing him, elbows high, with his slight limp making his way to the valley we called deep center. #7 in center; only once in a life time. Remember, Mike? ______________________________________________________________ Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. Oh very well, I cannot tell you how many times I sat in those $1.00 bleacher seats in center field.

.....and had the blessing of seeing #7 staring at you for nine glorious innings.
You had to grow up in NY to really understand that, didn't you........... As Bob Shepard said, "Playing Centerfield and batting third, number seven, Mickey Mantle". I still hear Shepard saying it, over and over again. ______________________________________________________________ Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking.
