Did anyone out there go to Herman Ridder PS 98 59-62. Do you remember Mrs Rothstein the drama teacher. Did you know that she taught Al Pacino to act. Also did many great plays, such as My Fair Lady and Flower Drum Song. That's where I meet my husband and many great people: Rene Lopez, Gladys Carrentine, Marilyn Zuretski, Ralph Rios and other.

The school is an Art Deco masterpiece and it's being renovated as we speak!

I'm having a tough time how to post on this site, but here goes.

Yes, I knew Mrs. Rothstein; I was`in her drama class in 1959 - majoring in sentence diagraming. I played a bit role in My Fair Lady.

I remember, an Elaine, a very pretty girl, who had the lead in Finian's Rainbow (1958). Ask your sister if she remembers me - I was voted best acted; but I still never got a decent part. Guess that's why I went on to study physics instead of acting.

I don't remember her last name. Al Pachino was a little before my time. We had a family friend whose son Bruce had a lead in Carrousel. He was a good friend of Al. I think he played Bill.

Went to Ridder from 1955-58. Was in Journalism classes. Definitely remember Mrs. Rothstein. The show that stands out in my mind was The King and I. Also the faculty version of Pajama Game.

Hi Schwartz. My name is Nitza. I went to Herman Ridder, and graduated in 1955. I remember mrs.Rothstein very well. I remember her fabulous drama class. I'll never forget, the plays her class put on the stage. Oklahoma,Annie get your gun. I remember they took those plays to a theatre in Manhattan. Those kids were marvelous. I remember Mrs. Rothstein playing the piano and leading the Glee Club with such enthusiasm. That woman was awesome!

He, me and Louie Soto were good friends. I can't believe Iv'e heard from somebody from the old block. By the way I did have Mrs. Rothstein when they did Flower Drum Song. Please contact me at geicojoe@aol.com so we can reminisce. Joe

Schwartz, I attended Herman Ridder JHS from 1959to1961...you must have seen the terrific article on Blanche Rothstein in the Journal News a few weeks ago. At age 90 she is directing a play at the Antrim Theatre in Rockland County....God Bless her...those shows she put on were always so so great. Flower Drum Song being the last one before I graduated. By the way do you know what ever happened to Ralph Rios, we were quite friendly.
