I sorry Yvonne but we did not have the experiences. Not even close to what you have endured.
Our lives were very simply "Good" and the fact that we like to share these memories with each other is a testament to the truth. You on the other hand have horror stories and I for one feel for you. If we sound indifferent to your plights it is beacuse it is not what I or some others would like to read. We are here to share what we remember in "THE GOOD OLD BRONX". GOOD GOD ARE WE GOING TO TURN THIS INTO MY LIFE WAS BETTER THAN YOUR LIFE, OR CAN WE FOR ONCE, JUST ONCE STOP THE CRITICIZING OF EACH OTHER. POST WHATEVER YOU WANT. WHAT DOES THE TOPIC MATTER IT GETS DISTORTED AND HIGHJACKED ANYWAY.
YVONNE SHOULD CONTINUE TO POST WHATEVER SHE LIKES, SCHWARTZ, YOU POST WHAT YOU LIKE, BUT PLEASE DON'T COMMENT ABOUT OTHERS BEING NEGATIVE WHEN YOU RESPOND TO YVONNE NEGATIVELY. IF YOU DON'T HAPPEN TO LIKE WHAT SOMEONE ELSE'S EXPERIENCES ARE JUST GO WITH THE FLOW. I DIDN'T GROW UP WITH THE HORRORS OF YVONNE, OR CATHY. MY PARENTS MOVED US OUT BEFORE IT HIT, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY NEVER HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE. I SEE THE BRONX AS GLORIOUS, PROBABLY YOU DO TOO, BUT OTHERS SAW DIFFERENT THINGS AND THEY DON'T VIEW THEM AS GLORIOUS.SOME OF MY FRIENDS VIEWS THE EXPERIENCE LIVING IN THE BX IN THE 60'S-70'S AS THE WORST TIME OF THEIR LIVES.aLL WE CAN DO IS SHARE IN OUR MEMORIES. |

I guess everyone always thinks my responses are trying to set a tone or are asking people to stop posting their stories. I was sympathizing with Yvonne not criticizing her posts. I was also telling her how it was for me. You read what you want into it. "ALL WE ARE SAYING, IS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE" |

Yvonne, thanks for that link, I liked the market better when I lived there and I did not recognize where Catania's is either, nor that new park with the statue of Columbus. But, I did recognize Mike's and all those mozzarellas, and those hero sandwiches. That cheese made my mouth water. Wish I could go back, but that's not possible. Also all the trees on Arthur ave look beautiful, wish theyhad put them there long ago...

I welcome all posts. Nostalgia, political, happy and sad. I don't care what threads you put them on. I'll find them.

That's OK dancer. It was just by accident that I found that site. I think Barb said something in another post about a neighborhood called Classon Pt. I wasn't too sure where this was in the Bronx, so I googled Classon pt. and came up with this web site, so I guess I owe Barb a thanks for mentioning Classon Pt. |

It is now at the end of Arthur across from ST. Barnabas. The park is what my grandmother used to call "The General's Park" because of all the old Italian soldiers who used to tell war stories there. It's always been there, just spruced up now. It's at the end of Arthur and Crescent. Some used to call it Adams Park because it's near Adams Place. The statue of Columbus is the statue that was outside of PS45 until the current school darlings started to deface it. It had to be moved and locked up at night to keep it safe. |
