I went to Roosevelt H.S.(Mid sixties) It was convenient. Right across the street. To sort of Paraphrase Herb-m in his DeWitt Clinton post Having me there was the worst mistake those teachers could have made. Not that I was so much a Bad boy but I WAS a comedian. I WAS rebellious. I hated most all of my classes except the sciences and history. Language was so bad that Mr. Peti (Italian Teacher) would leave a hall pass on my desk. Strange coming from an Italian background but I could not pick it up and so I made jokes to cover my inadequecies(sp?). One day (Early in the semester) one of the Italian kids called me something in Italian. I didn't understand it but the other kids laughed so I launched him over a few of his friends. Next day started my grand tour of the hallways of Roosevelt.
I went to Roosevelt..graduating in June of '66. Friends with Kenny Solway, Judy Master, Carol Horn, Sherry Perlstein and so many more. I had a great time there..I loved it. Wonderful years.
I hear roosevelt is closing. Not the building, but the name Roosevelt high school. It is four smaller schools for different studies now. As long as it's safe. my aunts tell me that even in the early 50's it was pretty rough.
I went to Roosevelt from 1962-1965. I grew up in the West Farms, Bronx park South area. Some of my friends from HS were: Janet Conciatori, Laura Cosentino, Patricia Alto, Serge Rondimone, Gregory Stawatz, Neil Tattolo, Harold Ritt, Carol modena and others. Who do you remember?

You're right about that....went to Summer School there in 66.
I went to Theodore Roosevelt from 1964-67, but didn't graduate there. Finished up High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. and lived with an aunt down there. I was tired of getting beaten out of my lunch money. The last day I was there, four girls banged my head on the wall, took my books, hit me with them, and threatened me for money. I was a quiet, studious kid, and almost dropped out. A boy named Ivan Terach was knifed in the neck and died near the school. Racial unrest was building at Roosevelt. The good part was that I enjoyed the Glee Club, though the teachers picked some somber, uninteresting stuff to sing, like "Requiem Etaernam" God forbid. The teachers were Mrs. Tiefer and Mr. Bustin, and auditioned for and made the All Boro Chorus as a soprano...bad part of that, my family wouldn't let me go to Manhattan to be in it. I was told "you can't earn a living that way"....how foolish they were. I guess many working class parents probably felt the same way. I was in Honors Bio with Mr. Pioselli, and had a crush on Eustace Morgese...wow, all these years and I still remember his name. He was a handsome, prematurely grey haired Italian...don't even remember what he taught. I was too busy staring at him! Other than the abovementioned things, I'd say my stay at Roosevelt was uneventful. I do remember a Linda Fusco, who never seemed to have her lunch money, and when mine wasn't stolen, asked to borrow some. lol.
Never let any kindness, no matter how small, go unnoticed. God bless All!

WENT TO THEO.ROOSEVELT H.S. FROM SEPT.1951-JUNE 1954 THEN RIGHT INTO THE U.S.ARMY.
GREAT SCHOOL,IN THE 50s THE BRONX HAD A LOT OF GANGS, BUT I KNEW A LOT OF GUYS IN DIFFERENT GANGS. WE USED TO GO TO POE PARK FOR THE DANCES.(GIRLS) EVERY WEEK.
HEARD JOHNNY RAYS RECORDINGS AFTER HE WAS ON THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW, IN SPARKY'S HERO SANDWICH SHOP AND CANDY STORE RIGHT ACROSS FROM P.S.45. HIS JUKEBOX HAD CRY,AND THE LITTLE WHITE CLOUD THAT CRIED ETC.
SPARKY CUT THE MEAT SO THIN YOU COULD READ THE PAPER THROUGH THEM. FOR AN EXTRA NICKEL YOU COULD DIP YOUR SANDWICH IN A BIG POT OF ITALIAN GRAVY (SAUCE) WITH YOUR STINKING DIRTY HAND GOING INTO THE POT.HA HA HA HELPED THE FLAVOR.
I went to Roosevelt for most of my freshman year, Sept. 1961 to May 1962. Had a good time considering that that year they had a bus strike and a teachers strike, but not at the same time if I remember correctly. To get to school without walking there from Vyse ave. @ 180th st. I took the train (Lexington Ave, line ?) down to I think 3rd. ave stop and took that train north to Fordham Rd. Either that or I called on my friend Christopher Ross (Bryant Ave.) who went to St. Agnes H.S. downtown and we skipped and hung around midtown all day. That was ok but when they had that teachers strike we spent all day ('cept for lunch) in the auditorium. I remember hearing that there was a riot in the cafeteria and someone was thrown out of the window. Thats when I decided to move to Rockland county and finish out the school year ,,,,Peace,,,Craig
Born and raised in da Bronks, sometimes I still miss it !

Jimmy wasn't that sandwich shop call Vita's? I went to Roosevelt H S and JHS45 on Hoffman st.
Barbara, I don't know what happens to my posts, they disappear. I asked you if you had a brother named Michael Illardi, or did you have an Illardi on Cambreleng Avenue near Artuso's, in that big building on the corner.
How old are you now?
