I just wanted to close out this topic by reporting that I finally sorted out my recollection of the trollies I had to take to get to the Holy Family Annex for my Hayes freshman year in 1946-47. A friend lent me a copy of "Third Avenue Railway - A Cityscape of Manhattan and the Bronx" and the trolley routes I would have taken are thorougly described in this fine book of photos and maps. I rode either one of two lines heading out from Tremont Ave and Webster. One was the 180th St. Crosstown line, and the other was the Tremont Ave Line. The choice was a simple one. When I got off the Webster Ave. North/South line at Tremont/177th St., whichever of the above two showed up first was the next one I took. Both went through West Farms Square, but I didn't have to change there if I was riding the Tremont line. All of this was before your time, since the buses took over completely on August 22, 1948. The photos in the book are great. I've been having a ball reading the signs on the stores and buildings in the background, and looking at the old cars, many of the pre-WWII. Although the trolleys had become a financial burden, and were a traffic nuisance (that was before I drove), I always thought they were a great non-polluting way to transport the public.

Anyone here know my dad? He went to Hayes in the mid to later 40s - Hobie Serino? Also his friend Tony Castellano? I think they went to Hayes around the same time as Regis Philbin, though Regis was younger.....
