Does anyone possibly remember Dirty Sam's Candy Store in the Highbridge section of the Bronx? Every day on our way to P.S.73, my friends and I would walk down this monstrous hill to get to school. We would begin by going into Dirty Sam's for an untold variety of penny candies. All too often, kids would stuff candy in their pockets, run for their lives, with poor old Sam yelling and chasing them down the hill. Those were the days.

I remember Dirty Sams and before that it was Lehers, it wasn't a hangout though we were always in and out unless picking out a song sheet , comic book,or a movie magazine....I hung out at Farbers, 162nd St. & Ogden Avenue. Both of these made great eggcreams. We make our own, they're good but you cant find seltzer like the power house they used........Doris Gill
