Wow, I had almost forgotten Luhr's homemade candy on University Ave near Burnside. They had a soda fountain, too. Gosh, their stuff was good! I can't pick any one thing that I enjoyed more than the other. The place was immaculately clean and the owners were friendly...a real, old-fashioned family place. I can smell the candy now! God bless Kris
Never let any kindness, no matter how small, go unnoticed. God bless All! |

I loved Luhrs. My favorite was a cherry lime rickey. Walking in there is the summer was awesome because of the great smell and the coolness from the air conditioning

Yes, Luhrs was a great place with the best homemade ice cream. For the record it was on University Ave between 176st and Tremont and across the street from JHS82. Before it was Luhrs it was named Rushmyers.

I went to PS 82 but never went to Luhr/Rushmeyers. Not sure why, but maybe I never had enough money to spend.

Luhrs was one of the greatest soda parlors ever. Homemade icecream and candies. I remember the Broadway Flips, the University Specials, Lime Rickys and the beef hamburgers you could only get on an English Muffin. Also, the marble counter. And prior to the renovation, marble tables and wireback chairs.
