Back in the mid 60's the Candy Store of choice was Huey's on 194th and Marion Ave. Spaldeens, pretzel rods, egg creams, baseball cards etc etc

I liked the candy store on 183rd between Creston and the Concourse.

It became a better candy store when the Jewish owner sold it to a Puerto Rican family, they expanded the store into what was a barber shop and they got pinball games. This gave us another place to hang out and talk more trash.

I would have to say there were two.....each on opposite sides of the Concourse, Mama's where all the Creston JHS and Simonite's went to and the Vouse on the other side of the Concourse
would go there for our quicky lunches and smokes
from SSS. What a great time we had back then.

Hi Barry:
You are so right about that. I was very lucky because i had a great candy store right on the corner of College and 166st. Dave's candy store. This people saw me as an 11 years old that could not speak english all the way to my 20's. It was like a family thing.

Chesters, or later owned by Slotnicks in the 700's on East Tremont Avenue....around the corner on Marmion I believe was DORSKYS....Sold Herald Tribune, Daily News, The New York Post, Daily Mirror and the Jewish Foward outside....inside was old fashioned penny candy store behind wood and glass cases.....2 tables against one wall and racks of the best selection of comic books!

I have many fond memories of ERNIE'S Candy Store on East Mosholu Parkway just off of Jeromoe Avenue. The place was run by Ernie and his Pop - I was really good friends with one of Ernie's sons, Craig. I think I was a teen when Ernie died and his family closed the shop soon after. I remember the 2-cent plains, eggcreams, candy (especially the button candy!) and the fun.

Born & raised in da Bronx and proud of it!

Rockabilly Richie, there was also a Jim and Joe's on 187th street. I wasn't "allowed" in there, lol.
Sonny's candy store on the corner of Prospect Ave. and 187th street was our place to gather.
