There was a wonderful candy store across Beaumont avenue from Mo's.....I can't think of the name. It was directly across the street from PS 32, right on Beaumont.

EGGCREAMS ?

I used to buy egg creams and ice cream sodas, in Mr. Levy's candy store, on the corner of Wilkins Ave and Boston Road. I used to hang with my friends, in front of Stan and Ruby's on Charlotte St. and Boston Rd. I remember when they used to yell at us for blocking the front door, because they thought we were stopping them from making business.lol It was funny, he had a sister that would come out screaming at everybody not to block the door ha ha. Like good teens that we were, we would walk away and come back, five minutes later.lol The good old days! But compare to today, we were angels. That's because our parents were there for us.

There were two in my opinion. Both right off of 175th Street and Grand - One was owned by Myer and Eli (called "Eli's") and it was right next to Sid's Fruit and Vegetables. Candid Camera went there once if I remember correctly. The other was across the street from Eli's that also sold records and took bets. (But they probably all took bets in those days, right?) They sold tops there too which were big in my neighborhood along with stick ball and punch ball of course. And if you had a new stick ball bat, the cops would take it away from you and say that you probably stole it (that happened to me).

Koenig's Candy Store: Evergreen and Westchester Aves.

His secret for a great egg cream?: put the glass on an angle when the seltzer was going in, and you had a great, bubbly head on top.

And, of course, use Fox's U-Bet Chocolate Syrup!~!
