Was just reading about Luhr's and remembered that we used to go there Friday nights after playing basketball at the 109 evening center. Once in a while some really good ballplayers from Taft and Clinton would show up. The guy running the gym was named Huey. I think he played for St. John's in the 50s. Also had the cafeteria for dancing and socializing.
Then it was off to Luhr's for sodas, malts, double thick frosties. They also had a good selection of sandwiches and burgers.
All this and we never needed to have anyone drive us anywhere.
It's amazing how I remember these facts. Now if I could find where I put my keys.....

Luhrs....I always had a coffee hot fudge sundae and a coke....toooooooo sweet
