I remember Freedomland -- my older sister dated a guy named Mike who worked at the Bumper Cars and I would get to ride over and over again. I loved it!

I remember Freedomland well.I went to see Patti Paige there. The fire works were great too. We had lots of fun there.

I was brought up in the South Bronx 152nd and St Annes Ave.Went to all the stores on 149th st.Alexanders Herns Freeds Cushmans German Pork Store.Later moved to burke ave. Had lots of friends on 187th st and Arthur ave in early sixties. went to all the feasts and loved all the Italian specialty stores.Used to go to soccer games I think the teams were Milano and FordhamItalians

I also worked at FREEDOMLAND. One year or so ago, I posted a notice seeking fellow workers.
Reply if you like.

I grew up within walking distance of Freedomland (well, a long walk...I was in the projects on Mace Avenue & Bronxwood) and was never in the place the entire time it was there. Eventually the tract became Co-op city. My parents moved there when it opened, but by that time I had moved out to an apartment of my own (Barker Ave just north of Pelham Pkwy).

I worked in Freedomland at the time it first opened. I was there for the grand opening parade with Pat Boone at the head of it in his white buck shoes singing away. I worked in "Little Old NY" in the penny candy store. I really loved it at that time.

funny part of all this is that where co-op city is is not where freedom land stood. it was a seasonal play ground and it become to costly to operate

Oh, man Freedomland! Mommy and daddy take my hand, take me out to Freedomland! What memories. The last time we were there, they changed the ay the Sky Ride worked. It used to be a round trip. Well, my freind and I get on and my mom realizes it is now a one way. We look down and there is my mom, running through the Stage Coach ride yelling up at us. When we get off, here she comes, trying to climb over a fence. Some guy had to help her. I wanted to die! But I tell ya, it was one great park! Wasn't one of the designers a former Disney Exec?

Didn't Freedomland become Co op City? The total destruction of the Bronx? Everyone who lived on the Grand concourse, ran fast as possible to own one of these co ops, other undesirables then moved on up, and took over the Concourse.

It is funny, I can't remember one moving truck in our neighborhood, but just like that, most of my friends were gone1 Macombs Road took a tuen for the worse right after. 1566 was one of the few buildings that wasn't torched. Just too sad!!
