I worked for a few months as a teen for Edith's Variety Shop under the el on Boston Road. I often bought Avon from her, and I think almost all my pay got farmed back to her. She had a small store with small windows. One day when I was in there, she complained that she didn't have enough space to display her merchandise. I offered to do her window dressing, and she hired me for that. I did a pretty good job of it, too. Edith and her husband both ran the store, and were very nice people.

Hi Mike, I remember Ward's shoes! Fordham was such a busy shopping area, and I always enjoyed walking around there. Alexander's basement was a fave of mine for whatever bargains I could find. Then of course, who could forget Jahn's and the kitchen sink. I never ordered one of those, but had to have a hot fudge sundae! Devilishly good! God bless. Kris

Wasn't Krum's a candy store? Go ahead and laugh if I'm wrong, but something in the name reminds me of butternut toffee covered with chocolate and nuts....forget the actual name of that candy! lol. God bless. Kris

Hi Kris, yes they did have Candy, however it was mostly popular for the Ice Cream and Soda Fountain. Very popular after a movie date at one of the Fordham theatres..was Jahn's #1 competition.

Hi Mike....I knew I remembered it as being a sweeeeet place! When I read the name "Krum's" began thinking goodies! Gone are the days when I could eat sweets with impunity. It's more like I go on Splenda binges now. But oh what memories! lol. God bless. Kris
