Anyone out there play roller hockey in the parking lot next to Yankee Stadium? I used to play for the New York Bruins in the late 60's early 70's. What blast! I remember going down there with snow shovles just so we could play!
We played punch ball most of the time. We had three bases because of the geography of the street that we played on. Hitting into the grass on the left or the right was a foul ball because this was in Parkchester, where "Walking on the Grass" got a letter sent to your parents.
We played punch ball because we could never ge ahold of a stick. Sticks were actually broom handles and I assume that every mother in the complex had to replace her broom because the stick "vanished". (Broom handles had a short lifespan the way that we played.)

Played all kinds of sports: stick ball in the street, pitching in the box, curb ball, punch ball, 'down the river', softball. Just amazing when you take time to think about it. And all very quick-reflex games. No wonder I'm having trouble with a slow game called golf!!

How about that roll of electrical tape for a puck and 2 garbage cans for the goal. Remember removing the front stop? I kept the screw and used it to stop or step on the goalies foot. Played at PS83 in Morris Park. Now they got those pre-fab buildings for classrooms and no schoolyard. What a shame!

Played just like half court basketball. You had to pass back to the line what we called "retrieve"
Played many roller hockey games in St. James Park which was located across the street from me. We played in the play ground until people started complaining. We didn't have a place to play so we went to the Bronx borough president's office with a petition and had a brand new roller hockey field constructed in the basketball court area. It was a blacktop surface and they painted yellow lines for the face-off circles, goalies area and "blue" line. I remember watching it being constructed and couldn't believe my eyes. We were excited!
Did you use the roller hockey shoe skates that had the steel wheels and seemed to weigh about 10 lbs each? I remember the wheels use to wear down and get smaller until there was almost nothing left and then you had to replace them. We used a roll of electrical tape for a puck. Man - I had so many great times playing sports in St. James park in the late 60's and early 70's. The Bronx was gorgeous back then.

I lived on 175st off of University Ave, Creston Ave and Pelham Pkwy. I hung out on Villa Ave for a little while, I also worked in Mannions Bar on Jerome and Burnside ave for a few years.

Hello from yoir old NY Bruins teamate. Those were good times with Dolan, Egan, Georgie, James Mikell, Gerald and all the rest. I'm still playing ice hockey several nights a week. Hope that all is well with you and your brother.

Chubber! Long time no see! Living out here in Oklahoma! How has everyone been back east? Geeze, I was looking at some old pictures of the team. I even found an old stat sheet from the parchester league!
Sorry I haven't replied in a looong while. i got busy here at work and got sidetracked from even thinking about the bronx list!
We played roller hockey and the puck...... we would get old shoe heels from "Fredie the Shoemaker". Played basketball in Hank Kaplan's backyard - he lived in a "private" house.
Punchball & two hand touch football in the street. I remember the first time I hit the ball over the sewer.
