Andy Petitte signed a 1 year contract for 16 million and will be in the starting rotation next spring.

I grew up on 175st 14 blocks from the House that Ruth built but bring back da Bums to Brooklyn my favorite team channel 9 WOR Happy Fella pregame and Vince Scully calling play by play. Watching the great Duke of Flatbush hit them out(Synder). That was baseball.

Yes Sir, back when it was truly a game...I grew up on 173rd St until 1965...moved to Fordham area |

How many wins did Andy get last year? I'll bet George is paying him more than a million dollars a win.

You're absolutely right Duke....His record with the Astros for 2006 was 14-13. George is paying him 16 Million! |

I'm from 165th one block east of the Concourse. A little closer than you. I couldn't agree with you more except my favorite was Furillo |

See how the mind works even though it read Happy Fella I read as Happy Felton till you pointed out the mistake |

Hey Duke,
Here's an opinion you can chew on: If Drew doesn't deliver, or gets a few stints on the DL, (apparently likely) and Coco has another so-so season, Theo will be gone, and deservedly so. He should never be forgiven for letting Damon go. As a Yankee fan, I'm delighted that he did, of course, but that mistake is equivalent to the Babe's departure over 80 years ago. Pete |

Here's another one:
Now that Petitte will come back to the Yankees, what are the chances that his buddy Roger Clemens will postone retirement one more time to join him in the Bronx? I bet that Cashman and the Boss won't be able to resist that opportunity. But maybe Roger would like to do Swan Song No. 3 in Boston? Not unless they sign a really good closer. I think Roger has about 35 fewer wins because of blown saves by a host of so-called closers. I'm guessing that there is a data base out there (like listing details on all of his 600+ starts)which would allow digging up that information. Anyone want that as a homework assignment? Pete |

And one more:
Which problem would you rather have to deal with? Francona/Epstein dealing with Manny or Torre/Cashman dealing with A-Rod? I'll withhold my opinion on that to see what kind of comments you guys have. Pete |

Pete, I'll go with Torre/A-Rod....He seems to have problems with New York Press Corps and Fans (which I am sorry to say are the "Biggest Fair Weather Fans in all of Baseball").The problem up in Boston seems to be "Lack of Attitude Adjustment"

I'm loving this BS going on now in Boston with the Japanese pitcher Matuszaka. The Sox are so desparate to get this guy and to contribute the $51 million that they'll probably cave to Boras' demands and give him pretty close to the $16 million (per year) that he wants. And the Red Sox fans get down on the Boss for all the money he spends. This guy better be as good as they say he is, or the Boston fans will have Epstein et al for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I bet Hideki will take him deep with regularity.

I'm really suffering now. The UConn teams are on exam break, so I'm hoop deprived until Sunday. Our local paper doesn't do too much in the "Hot Stove League" category, so my baseball news and rumors are minimal. Anybody know of a good baseball board (preferably Yankee oriented)? In case you are all wondering, I don't follow football much - an occasional game when I'm really bored. No real reason other than I have other stuff I need to do, and football (and NBA) get the short end of the stick.

Thanks, Duke. I already have those bookmarked. I think what I meant was one where give and take comments can be posted, but not a "real-time" chat room. Hey, I can emphathize with a die-hard Red Sox fan. Although I started out as a Yankee fan in my early teens, I became a Red Sox fan in 1972 and remained such (I would have said I was die-hard) until the summer Dan Duquette (need I offer the other pronunciation?) fired Jimy Williams and made Kerrigan the manager. At that point I decided that, all the years notwithstanding, I had enough and came back to my roots - The Yankees. Of course, I got hate e-mail from my three kids whom I had raised to be die hard Sox fans. And also, of course, the Yankees haven't won the Series since I came back. Is this the curse of the MamboPete???
