Back in the day the newspapers, radio and TV didn't talk about the athletes off field escapades. Even today I don't care about what an athlete does in his personnel life as long as they don't break the law. Look at all the clergy involved in scandle. And all of those politicans involved in scandles and teachers having sex with their students. A childs role model should be their parents and if their not maybe they should look and see what they've done wrong.

Red,
Any kid who followed the Yankees of the 50's KNEW that Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Hank Bauer(??)and Billy Martin (baseballs Rat Pack) were getting sauced every night when they had home games. I forgot where they went (Jack Dempsy's, The Copa??) but it was well publicized, and Billy Martin started to demonstrate his provlivity for brawls and violence WELL before meeting Mr.October. Like you said, we about ignored it, as they were winning pennants and World Series about every year. Maybe kid did have solid role models at home. But somewhere, something changed. That sort of stuff wouldn't fly anymore a few years later. Maybe it WAS associated with kids having poorer and poorer role models at home, and the image of professional athletes being drunk in public wasn't cutting it anymore....nowadays, we se athletes differently than we did then....I wonder why

Red Sox Nation is in the Bronx for 3 big ones. The lads need another sweep like this past weekend to stay alive for the post season!

No, you are not imagining anything. There is a method to their madness. BTW, the lads just lost Game 1 tonight 7-3.

I know that are beloved Yankees are out of it for this year but I have to root for the Rays, Twins and the White Sox to keep the Red Sox from making the Play-offs.

Mike the 2008 Yankees - RIP. My wife and I can't bear to watch them anymore - even the convention is more appealing. We pay for the baseball package on Direct TV as do my other kids who live outside the NY area so it hurts more. I think that what we knew is now pretty much a fact - the 2008 Yankees are dead. Besides the injuries, and lets be fair the Red Sox have had their share, you can't win when your clean-up hitter is batting about 250 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and Giambi batting just above the Mendoza line with RISP. They are one of the worst teams in hittng with two outs and RISP. How many well pitched games have they lost when scoring three runs or less? I don't remember the exact stats but they are the reverse of last yars when scoring three or less runs per game. The lack of key hitting has plagued them for the last few years. Prior to last night's game, A-Rod had hit into 4 DP's in the first 92 games and something like ten in the next 19 games. When the Yankees win Cano is hitting about 377 and about 200 points less in their loses. Why is it that other teams seem to come up with young quality pitchers and the Yankees come up with guys that can't seem to stay healthy (Hughs and Kennedy).

Finally Giambi camr through. Last year the Yankees scored three runs or less in 41 games all season. This year, counting today, it's 57. Where has the offense gone???????????
