During yesterdays YANKEE game they were doing an in-game interview with Girardi. A blurb on the screen said that he was the fourth former YANKEE catcher to manage the team. We all know that,in addition to Girardi, Yogi and Ralph Houk managed the team. Who was the other - name and year? It took a bit of research to find out the answer. I'm big fan and I was suprised by the answer.

You're a better man than me Mike. I thought that I knew YANKEE history but this one beat me.

He only managed part of the seson. The YANKEES did't want to pay him what he wanted so they hired Bucky Harris.

OK....I have 2 questions related to nicknames and previous names:

1) "Bronx Bombers" is the current nickname of the New York Yankees. They had two other ones. What were they?

2) What was the name of the New York Yankees prior to moving to New York?

I had seen it on a Yankee trivia page a while back. Unfortunately, I cannot remember which one.

Sorry.

Harper, yes, the Name "Invaders" was an UNOFFICIAL name given to the team DERISIVELY according to the site noted below. I was not intentionally making up a trick question, as the original site I saw that in just mentioned that they had 3 nicknames, not mentioning the Invaders name was not an official name. In either case, the Invaders WAS a nicknake. Again, I did not intentionally pose the quuestion as a trick one.

The way they explain it in Cooperstown, all team names were unofficial. they were invented by the sports reporters. It was more interesting to write about the Giants, as opposed to all ways refering to the team as New York National league team.

True with all the early teams. This was before, mass marketing, popularity polls, opinion polls, trade marks, Etc.
