When I lived in the Bronx I always looked forward to the fall because that's when my father the FRUITMAN would bring home the best apples and my sisters and I would bake pies, struddle and make applesause.

Now I go to the orchards and pick my own, but the baking experience is still rewarding and my house smells like Fall.

Two off the orchards near us not only sell apples but apple pies. I wonder how long the remaing orchards are going to last with the high land prices.

My mother couldn't bake a pie to save her life. They made good door stops though.

DBOB which orchards do you go to?
I go to the Outhouse off 684 in No. Salem. They also have lots of stuff for sale like fudge and some baked goods. There is another one right near there, Salingers, that only sells it fruit and veggies as well as baked good. Outhouse has a petting Zoo and a pumpkin patch. Make for a great family outing.

Schwartz Those are the only two I know of that are close to my house. I go to both. Haight which was close to the others has been gone for a while. There land is worth millions there apples are not worth that much. I wonder why they stay on.

It was right at exit 8 I684. East of the exit on Hardscrable road before you got to outhouse. It was the smallest of the 3 places.
