Billy N is right - Corky's has tp be the one. it was a diner, before the Greeks took over the diner franchise.

There was a counter in the front and booths in the rear, they served all sorts of food. I used to meet my mom there after getting off the D train on my way home from work and we'd have dinner there. I've eaten there many many times.

Sutter's was a bakery and they used to have a tea room, but that was really only for cakes and pastries and sandwiches at lunch time.

Big Burger had great hamburgers in the early sixties, when I frequented the place. They always put a slice of raw onion on 'em.

During my senior year in HS 68/69..I worked after school for John Ward Shoes on Fordham Road near Elm Place. Every afternoon I would always go by GORMANS on the way for two of the best Hot Dogs in the Bronx...never got tired of them!!

How about Brightons off burnside near jerome ave. My grandparents would take us there, the best roast beef, mac and cheese and creamed spinich. To this day I can still taste that food. Then for desert we went to the local candy store for a ice cream cone at Mr. Tiers.

The 167th St cafeteria was my favorite. It was a long walk from my house but it was worth it. The one on 161st and river was good and close to my house

The 167th St. Cafeteria made a valiant effort in the 70's to garner business, advertising heavily in the local papers and on buses and billboards. It was a great place. Brighton Cafeteria was also a good place to stop for something good to eat on Fordham Rd.

The restaurant was Corky's. Carol's was on the same side of the street as Alexanders. Sutter's was mostly pastries. There was also a G & R bakery on Kingsbrige Road.
