Hi, does anybody remember the wonderful private beaches, like Manhem and Vogt's Beach near the Throg's Neck area? They had some nice food concessions there. In remembering City Island, though, the smell of those dead horseshoe crabs could take one's appetite away, for sure. I sure did love those areas, though. Then, of course there was Orchard Beach, and we know of it's other name, which can't be printed herein, but begins with "Horse".lol.

Hi Kristine, I was at Vogt's beach every single day, remember the area with the juke box,and the food, and then swimming out to that big square piece of wood out in the water, I can't think of what it was called, boy am I old...hahhaa anyway, all those beaches Golden beach etc, it was a beautiful place in those days.....not now....like evertthing else.
Hi Barb. I haven't been there since I was a kid, but I can imagine the plague has spread up there, too. I have a friend who lives in Throgs Neck, and she owns her own home. She says the neighborhood has gotten very unsafe. Maybe those of us who bailed out of the Bronx years ago, did the right thing. It's a shame, though. Staten Island didn't have much crime, either, and I left there ten years ago. Now, my friends tell me there are terrible things going on. It's sure like a cancer that spreads. So far, Saratoga Springs is safe, and I hope it stays that way. God bless. Kris

Kristine, how weird. My cousins lived on Staten Island and it was indeed a wonderful safe place in the 60's. Then I spent a summer in Balston Spa, outside of Saratoga Springs...you brought back a lot of memories of my early days, and Balston Spa was soooo beautiful. I think I am spelling it right. hahaha Glad to hear Saratoga Springs is still nice.
Hi, Oh yes, it's an incredibly small world. I moved to Staten Island in 1973, and there was still alot of land left. Now, they can't build sideways, so they're building upwards, and from what I hear...the most ugly condo type buildings one could imagine. I haven't been back in ten years, but I may venture back this spring. Ballston Spa is still lovely. Drive fifteen minutes out of anywhere up here, and you have rolling hills and farms. Since Saratoga is known for horses, we see many of them up here...truly the loveliest of God's creatures, but I feel for them when they're made to run (for oats) during track season. I think...who do we humans think we are, subjugating such divine animals for money! Oh well...I digress (often, lol). Yep, it is a small world! God bless. Kris
