This might sound strange but while living in the Bronx I never had an egg cream, Jewish food, soul food, Chinese food, and Italian food was mostly pizza and hero sandwiches. In fact, I never had Jewish food in my life. I have heard of matzo balls, but never had them,, are kinishes Jewish food????

The bakery I went to was G&R on 183rd st. but my mom was a baker of pies and deserts so we didn’t get too much from the bakery.

Pasta, not much, maybe Chef Boyardee in a can.

I lived a secluded life in the Bronx, it wasn’t until I moved to Manhattan is where I went out to different restaurants and other eateries. Mostly on the Lower East Side, like Nightbirds, 103”s, Kiev’s, Rays pizza. Sometimes I wonder why I am on a Bronx forum like this one, I really didn’t do much in the Bronx as far as going to stores and restaurants. I just hung out on the street with a few people, wasting time, talking trash.

There are some things that we all treasure from our memories of the Bronx. The food we ate, whether home cooked or eating out, are embossed in our minds so much that whenever we can we try to either make these foods or find them in the stores or restaurants.

When planing my Sister Gails Celebration of life I couldn't think of anything more appropriate to serve then Kosher Deli! So we will be having little kinishes, chopped liver and lots of corned beef, pastrami, roast beef and turkey. Of course there will be a pickle platter, potato salad, coldslaw and to top it off RUGGALLA ( not sure how to spell it but sure know I like it).

Best spare ribs I have ever tasted were when I was 17 I was living by myself and had to eat out all the time. Twice a week I would go to this little restaurant. This was on 165th st between Finlay and teller. I cant quite remember but it was about three blocks east of Morris on 165st. This was an Afro american rest served great southern ribs, Potato salad and other things, but i was stuck on the ribs. The owner got to know me after a while and was appreciative that i would bring my Puerto Rican buddies to eat there. I was a very light complexion P.R. no one has ever accused me of being P.R. so a lot of times there the owner would have to tell some of his customers to be still because they thought i was white. Which I laughed at most of the time.
But I have never tasted ribs like those again. Always remember that the first time I heard the song 'My true story' By the Jive Five was at that rest. Great memories of the restaurant and the song although the lonely nights at seventeen weren that great.

Back in the Bronx when we were growing up, my family never went out to eat. I didn't know what it was like to eat out in a restaurant until my college days when I was away from home a lot.

But now we eat in a restaurant about twice a week. Of course my favorite food is Italian. But back in my college days and working days, I used to like to try all different types of food. We used to go to French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German, and of course, American, and Continental cuisines.

Mike: It was the Dynasty restaurant. They had a buffet.

Mary Lynn: My food memories are extensive. I could wax poetic thinking of the nirvana that was right outside the door of our house. Jahn's ice cream a block away, Sutter's Bakery on the Concourse, also walking distance, as were Zaro's, Webers, Hanscombs and Cushman's. There were more restaurants than I can count on one hand, and I had a chance to eat at most of them. Highlights were Katz' Delicatessen on Jerome Avenue near Mosholu Parkway, the best, the very best delicatessen I have ever had, totally home made and run by the family. Another was Krum's on the Concourse, they had a soda fountain and also served food, great place to go for breakfast. Also Schrafft's on Fordham Road, I also loved the Palace Deli on 188th & Creston Ave. Gorman's was the place for the best hot dogs on earth, and Merit Farms was the grease fix that was just too good to be bad.

Danny, how come some posts you write perfect with no spelling errors, and in other posts, the whole post is full of spelling errors.

Hm, hm, methinks something is funny here. lol

There is nothing wrong with Danny, he isn’t a troll trying to disrupt things, just look at his posts. All of his posts have been very polite and courteous. He even tried to get some topics of the Bronx discussed but as usual very few(maybe just Suzie) even bothered to answer him. I had answered one of Danny’s threads but I saw Schwartz answer in the thread and I thought better of it and deleted my answer. I know that Schwartz will just put down my Bronx experiences as being negative and not fitting into her ideal world of what life was like so why should I even bother to answer. I will just make silly posts, mostly posts about sexual innuendo, these type of posts seem to upset a lot of people here, so maybe these are the best types of posts to make.

Anyway, Danny is the same age as me. We have PM’ed with each other about stuff. We talked about topics that we both relate to, topics that no one else here can relate to. We talked about other forums and one of which I have also joined and talked about some Bronx stuff., So Danny isn’t a troll or someone to be su****ious of, Danny is only trying to talk about things he likes and like always on this forum, there is always someone conducting a witch hunt as if Danny is some kind of bad guy.

Oh, And Danny one thing you can do about the spelling is to type out your response in something that has a spell check, such as microsoft word processor then copy and paste your response to the forum.

I've had private conversations with him as well. We are about the same age, have had similar experiences. He's just a guy who wants to connect with people from the Bronx.
I dont understand why anyone would suspect him of anything, he hasnt bothered anyone, hasnt insulted anyone and has been pleasant. Is that the problem here, that he's just a pleasant guy?
Danny, get nasty, you'll get a better reception, lol

and HEY Yvonne, I can relate, lol

We never went out to eat either. A slice of pizza was eating out for us. We couldnt afford to eat at a restaurant. Well, maybe that's not true, now that I think of it. We ate at Howard Johnsons once in a blue moon. Fried clams. I used to love their friend clams. That was my mom treating me, fried clams at Howard Johnsons.
