The same thing happened to me when i went down to Virginia for a vacation a few years back i asked for a hero and the guy looked at me like i was insane..lol

It is and always will be hero to me!!

I'm Born,raised & still live in DA BRONX it was & still called a HERO!!!.It was'nt until these Towelhead came & made these Dumps called Blimpy's & subways is were you hear subs.The best back in the day was Busco's on Bruckner Blvd.It's still there today.No matter how you say it,it's still a HERO!!! GOD BLESS

Another name is some plcses is "grinder". I recall the heros used a long hard role, like French or Italian bread. Here the are all called subs, and a soft long roll is used.
