Zaro's is a winner. I used to get their great cheesecakes on Kingsbridge. They had a location on Lexington Ave., north of Grand Central Station for awhile. Now, I shop them in Grand Central Station. I think they have one in Penn Station too. It's nice to know you can shop them over the Internet. That might come in handy someday.

Al & Dom's on Gun Hill Road. Best cakes and cookies! We loved their stuff almost as much as our kids loved it. Gone for years, and not to be confused with Sal & Dom's on Allerton which is not the same people. Thanks, Blain, for the Zaro's web site. Never thought to see if any of the bakeries are online. Black and whites, here we come!

The bakery on Sedgewick and Kingsbridge was Phillip's. The rye bread with black seeds was the best.

Sal and Doms on Allerton was great....growing up in the 60s we had Sapersteins, which later became Zaro;s...I was not impressed with Zaro;s but Sapersteins had some great Charlette Rousse (i have no idea how thats spelled)

Zaro's in Parkchester was great when I was growing up.There Cheesecake was the best around at the time.Everything they made was great.I had a girlfriend who used to work there,I would pick her up after work and get anything I wanted for free.WOW that was even better.Zaro's is still there till this day. It's on Huge Grant Circle. But if you want real Cheesecake today, you have to go too Juniours on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn They are the Best & Expensive. There are still alot of good bakery's in DA BRONX,NOW THAT RULES! GOD BLESS

Another great Bakery was D&D Bakery on E234th Street near the old Wakefield movie house the pumpernickle bread was to dye for, the apple turnovers not to mention the crumb buns and of course the crelers (not sure of the spelling) my dad would go every Sunday morning and get fresh baked rolls and buns for breakfast. Now I have to settle for an English Muffin "Thomas's" of course.

That was Dana's Bakery. It was amazing how many different types of breads, cakes, pastries, etc. they were able to turn out each day, and all were great. There were also a 'commission bakery' between 175th and 174th. They didn't do the baking, but got their goods from various bakeries. The stuff was just as fresh, but not the variety.
