Which Adventures Inn was there first? I thought it was the one on Central Ave. and the one
in Cross County came later. Maybe I think that because my parents took me to the one on
Central, than I took my 1st child to the one in Cross County before moving. It would have had
to have been there before Cross County was built. Gorman's had the best dogs. I lived on
Marion and 188th st so I was only four blocks away. I think it was that rolling metal
grill that made them so good.

Gormans was the best. I'd shop Plymouth and go next door for two hot dogs and a pineapple drink. That "kid" with the red hair was the best. He must have had a portrait somewhere, like Dorian Gray, because he never aged.

They had a good Hot dog place in the Hub on third Ave just north of Alexanders. I dont know the name of it. I stoped eating the Hot dogs from the carts years ago. They made me sick too many times. I dont know why they clean the carts every year or so.

Was it a cart or a store? The best hot dog joint I can remember in the Hub was Nedicks.

...this hotdog vendor had
his cart set up
right outside the supermarket.
I always asked
my mother to
get me a hotdog
with "everything on it"
as we passed this man....
until the day we saw him
emerge from between parked cars
zippin' up after urinating
and heading straight for his
cart without sanitizing his hands
to serve the next would-be customers...
  • hot dogs = dirty water dogs

I'm brand new to this site but feel like I've come home, after lurking for awhile. Born and raised in The Bronx, I've been thinking about Gorman's hot dogs for so long. They were the best, IMO. It was a quick lunch while shopping along Fordham Road. I also remember the cone shape cups in the plastic holders. Those were the days, my friends! Looking forward to spending time here with you.

Thanks for the welcome, Mike!

I lived on Harrison Ave, off of Burnside Ave when I was a kid. Then my family moved to the Grand Concourse and Mosholu Parkway and I was there until 1979, when I got married and moved to the Pelham Parkway area. So I've been around The Bronx! haha I went to Walton H.S. and graduated in 1974.

Walton will graduate it's very last class this coming June. I believe they are going to use the building to house 4 or 5 small specialty schools.

Hi Mike, Glad to see your familiar name on the board and hope you're doing well. I'm fine by the grace of God. I remember Woolworth's hotdogs on Tremont Avenue. My mother and I always shopped on Tremont and then she'd take me for an orangeade and a hotdog...they sliced it in half and grilled it. For all we knew, they could have had beeflips and other byproducts in the hotdogs, but they were tastier than anything I've had since. For dessert, there was always neapolitan ice-cream waffles. Yep, the good old days. Are you the one who wants to move back to the Bronx? I haven't been on the boards so long, I forget. God bless. Kris...send me a private note if you can, as I have some questions for you about this board. Thanks.

Never let any kindness, no matter how small, go unnoticed. God bless All!
