I was going through my closet last week and came across my old PS105 signature book (we did not have yearbooks back then), along with my class pictures from grades 1-6.
I am looking for anyone who attended PS105 in the late 1970's - specifically anyone who was in the 1979 graduating class. Good teachers back then - I had the following 1st grade - Ms. Samuels 2nd grade - Ms. Kaplan 3rd Grade - Ms. Witte (her last class before passing away the following summer) 4th grade - Ms. Goldschmidt 5th grade - Ms. Katz 6th grade - Ms. Klugman I still live on Holland Ave. betw. PP South & Lydig Ave. John & Joe's Pizzeria is on the corner - used to be a candy store there. Great neighborhood to have grown up in - a lot of great memories (who remembers Whiffle Ball?) Lots of good friends growing up. |

Bruce Burdman...Nice memories you have. I attended PS 105, graduated in '40. Terrific growing up in the neighborhood, and it was truly a tight neighborhoood. I went back to visit about ten yrs ago and it was pretty much the same. IMAGINE!! Lived at 2156 Cruger Ave, betw PP and Lydig. Remember whifleball, stickball, boxball, punchball, stoopball(though we had no stoop until we got away from the apartment house!) Attended PS 83 after 105, then Columbus HS at Astor & Colden avs. Recall a great Deli at Lydig & Cruger, a MUST before the Sat matinees at the Pelham Theater. Great holidays to you. Lou Sirota

I forgot to mention them.
When in 2nd or 3rd grade i slid down the middle banister of the double stair case. When i landed at the bottom, Mr Wolf was there, he immediatly put me over his knee and spanked me! Of course i told him that my daddy was gonna come in and beat him up!Mr. Wolf was more than happy to have my father come in..The next day in Mr. Wolf's office. Mr. Wolf explained to my father what i had done and that indeed he did put me over his knee and spank me.With that my father stood up and shook Mr. wolfs hand, thanked him and gave him permission to spank me any time he saw fit!!!!I was shocked!!!........I believe that a lot of parents today would probably sue or go in fighting themselves..But of course my father and Mr. Wolf handled me just as they should have. |

Neighborhood has changed radically in the past 10-15 years.
Biggest changes - 1 - No more Jewish Deli's Zion on the corner of Holland & Lydig - GONE Levine's on White Plains Road - across from the OTB - GONE Also - No more Hong Wo Chinese Restaurant - they have been gone for at least 10 years. I remember Harry always waiting there to greet customers - their food was always good. 2 - No more big schoolyard at PS105 - they built the "temporary" in-ground schoolhouses in the big yard - so no more softball games there. I go back every year on Election Day to vote, and once in a while I will snaek up to the Main Office, just to see if any of my old teachers are still there. The last one to go was Mrs. Klugman, she was Asst. Principal when she retired a few years ago. Now, nobody there I recognize. |

Yo Lou, I didn't go to PS 105 but I did go to 83 and columbus. I spent my entire youth playing in 105 schoolyard. I lived a few blocks away on Unionport Rd. and bronx Park East. I think I spent more time in the schoolyard than i did anywhere else. I was just talking about the Staurday morning matinees at the Pelham..."The Skull, Flash Gorden, Rocketman" Those were the days. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, I really enjoy doing that every so often, especially with my grandkids. This message has been edited. Last edited by: jaibronx, Johnny I |
