Landmarks - the Dover movie theater, the Dover Bar, and the 174th St. Subway station where we use to play "Johnny on the Pony". There's a bunch of us here in Florida and we are looking for more. THose of you who remember, get in touch with me.

We used to live in a building on Trafalgar Place, which was at the corner of 175th St. There was a little "tail" of Crotona Park that meets Southern Blvd. for a block's length. Mom used to shop in the Associated market which was right on the other side of that little piece of park.

I remember the Dover theater, and there was a pizzeria right next to there by the same name which had amazingly good pizza.

On 174th St. on the other side of the el on Boston road was a delicatessen that had a big beautiful neon sign, I think it was on the corner of Vyse or Hoe ave. Once in a while we'd go over there to shop but we mostly went up to Tremont Ave.

We always got our prescriptions filled at Sid's pharmacy which was on Southern Blvd. and 176th St.

I was just a kid in the late 50's, and most of you guys had already fled for greener pastures by the 60's, but I still remember it as a great and vibrant neighborhood.

One of my most vivid memories was of the building of the dreaded Cross Bronx Expressway; the workers were using dynamite to blast the rock away. One day they let out a blast and the vibration caused our kitchen cabinets to come free from the walls. Mom was standing at the sink when all of a sudden the dish cabinet started falling slowly in front of her. She screamed for us to come help her hold it up while she got the dishes out!

Little did we know that much more than plates and glasses would be broken. The heart of a whole way of life was cut in half.

Elliot--I remember all the places your referring to , however I only saw them fom the busses that took me back to West Farms where I changed busses for the ride to Parkchester, where we lived. I attended Herman Ridder JHS about 1951-2 and vividly remember many of the kids and their names, although I can't place yours. One of the other posters in this thread mentioned Herb Handler, who I do remember as being a tall deep voiced, blond haired guy at that time. Advise if I can help with any other memories,
