I hung out at both Loreto Park as well as PS108. I would also hang out at Sorrento's pizzeria on Williamsbridge Rd as well as Carlo's Pizzeria at 1809 Radcliff Ave. Carlo's has been there since the '50's and still going strong.

HI BRONX108! I was just in Carlo's a couple of weeks ago! I could not believe they still remembered me! I use to be in there all the time when my wife and I lived on Colden Av. I still couldn't tell the Twins apart! FRANK & CARLO JR. Even the "Old Man" himself Carlo Sr. was there! He looked great. I remembered when they lost their Mother. It was a pretty sad time. I still talk about the great "DOUBLE CRUST" Pizza they make down there! Such a NICE FAMILY!! TAKE CARE!

The twins have always been good to my family and I. Their mom was a wonderful person, always happy and upbeat.
Did you notice if they still had a 1977 Bronx Yellow Pages book on a shelf diagonally across from the oven? From what I understand, "Carlo's" started out of a garage at the same spot back in 1957. That place is a true Morris Park classic.

No I didn't notice if the Yellow Pages was still there. When I walked in the store, it was like stepping back in time. The place still looked the same! It really says something about the People & the Quality of their food when a pizza place that SMALL! can still be around after all these years!! They still only have like One & a half tables to sit at, and no counter to even STAND AT AND EAT YOUR SLICE!! Big Grin Smiler TAKE CARE!

Frank M, your description of Carlo's makes me want to get a slice from there right now. I've been living in Florida for the last 3 years and the pizza here just doesn't compare to the Bronx.
I visited a childhood friend who relocated to San Diego and he brought me to a place called "Bronx Pizza". The owners were from Gunhill Road!!!

bronx108, I'll bet you those guys were the one's that owned the Pizzerea on GunHill Rd. off of Burke Av. by the Dyre Av. Subway line!! they had some GREAT Pizza there & were always busy, because they were right by the train station. I'm almost positive they are gone from there, I remember the owner being a pretty young guy, so it's very possible it is one in the same person out in San Deigo! Confused The next time I'm down in the Bronx I'll pass by there and let you know for sure if he is gone or not. But ask your friend to ask the owners if they had the place next to the Train Station! I'd love to know if I'm right! Talk to you soon Wink TAKE CARE!!

Yo....Penquin,
I'm a bit older but, I attended P.S. 83 in the 50's. As a kid (until I was 25) I lived at 1980 Unionport Rd. across the street from the park, at the top of the hill from the handball courts. I learned to play baseball on that field. I also attended CCHS from '59 to '63. I moved to an apartment on the coener of Hunt and Morris Park in 1969. I lived above DoDo's candy store which was located next to my grammer school's church....Our Lady of Solice. I used to hang out at P.S. 105 schoolyard where I played stickball from dawn till dusk.
I know this is a bit before your time but I'm sure the sights...sounds and smells are the same.
Oh, is Liberty Pizza still in business? The were locat ed right across from Our Lady of Solice school.
Thanks for evoking some great memories.
John

I used to bowl for some big money at Van Nest Lanes on bronxdale. They asked my father to leave on Sunday claiming he was a pro hustling the locals.

Hey Penguin,

I lived in the Morris Park, White Plains Rd. section of the Bronx for nearly 30 years.

I went to PS 32 in the early 70's, then to PS 105 until the late 70's, Graduated there and went on to JHS 127 until 1980-1, I think.

From there over to Columbus HS until 1983-4. My memory is so bad about things of that nature, I can't remember too many of the people I hung out with in those days... Too many concussions from rough sports and the like.

I ate at Pat's Pizza all the time, I knew little Pat personally.

By the way, my name is Eddie Fleischman, I am 40 now. I lived on Hunt Avenue across the street from St. Dominic's Grade school. There were so many of us, lots of friends.

I played every sport there was back then. And when there were no more games to play, we made up our own games. Those were the days!

I miss all the friends I had back then. Those were very good times for me personally.

I played for the Spartans when they used to practice over at trojans field in the early 1980's (QB). I played little league ball for Tre-Ford Little League, near Allerton Avenue.

I played a year with the Vogels, and I even played Baseball for St. Dominic's too.

What names can you remember? You rattle off as many as you can and I will do the same. Maybe you can help jar my memory a bit.

Maybe you even remember me? I was a pretty good athlete. I loved all sports. Still play Softball every sunday at either Pelham Bay or the Ice Hutch. Jimmy O'Gorman's league.

Well, gotta run, the girlfriend just got up and she needs me!

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories for me.

Eddie

ekf1465 , just out of curiosity, if you lived in the Morris Park Section, why did you go to PS32, which is on 183rd street between Beaumont and Cambreleng Ave. in the Belmont (Arthur Avenue) section? Kind of a hike, no?
Unless you did not live in the Morris Park section then? lol....

Morris Park is a decent area, why the h-ll did you guys leave. Unlike the south Bronx they don't have a problem with crime and extreame poverty. It is a working class area, Hispanic and Black in the southwest, White and Asian in the northeast. West side near White Plains road is tenements and rowhouses, east side is single family homes.

The area is becoming increasingly Hispanic, you guys should have held on to this area.

The area may still be "nice", but you still have to send your kids to a NYC school.
Parochial schools are just as bad.

Get back to Carlo's Pizzeria. Ive been gone for 12 years. Cant believe the boys are still there. Huge Met fans. Remember mixing all the sodas from the machine. What about the old lady on the third floor in the apartment next door. She would pour a pot of hot water on you if you sat on the stoop in front of her building and ate your slice. $1 got you a slice and a soda. Early 80's
