Hi. I was a member of the Aux Police unit at the 52nd pct (patrol unit) from about 1972 through 1977. I would love to hear from other members of the 52 or other Bronx units. AND I would love to see pics from those days.

Chelle:

My mom was an auxiliary police officer from the late 1960's, I think through 1973? She was known as Mickey Kaplan.

Does this ring a bell?

I knew a Micky but I don't remember her last name - what precinct was she with? I didn't join until 1972 but my dad was in the 52nd Aux unit from 1954 (he is deceased now)so that mught be where I knew this Micky from?

Chelle:

Well... Mom's still kicking (she just turned 80 this month) and may remember you. If you don't mind me asking, is Chelle Cordero the name that she would remember you by?

yep (or maybe my first name-birth name of Rachelle) Tell her that my dad was the Aux. Capt. Marcy Cordero, she might remember him. Other names from the unit she might remember (I lost touch with all of them) were Mike Moore, Sy Alper, Etta & George Schmelke...

Chelle:

Mom says Capt. Marcy Cordero rings a bell. She also mentions several regular officers; I'm not sure of the correct spelling:

Joe Miggliozzi - Head of the Auxiliary.
Captain Strut - Precinct captain.
Sgt. Jerry Sycklick.
Hank Spillone
Lt. Redmond

Maybe these names better place the time when she was there.

Yes, she definitely remembers the era!

the reg PO who liaisoned with us was Joe Martucci

Hank Spallone (Henry J Spallone) went on to become the Yonkers Mayor for a number of years. He is retired now and I am not sure where he is living.

I am going to try to insert a pic of my dad in uniform, maybe you can show it to your mom.

Chelle:

Great shot!

I'll print it out and give it to Mom. It will be interesting to see her reaction.

Chelle:

Mom recognized your dad right away!
She sends her condolences on his passing.

She knew about Hank Spallone being mayor of Yonkers (He was one of the two officers stationed in JHS 80 when I went there 1969-72).

Mom got involved in the youth council around 1963 and some years after became an auxiliary police officer. She was very active in organizing the community to prevent Lindsey from closing the five two.

We left the Bronx in 1971 or 72.

Hi Rick, the more I think about it, the more I believe I remember meeting your mom. I told my sis about our chat here (she is older than me and never was part of the Aux.) and she got a real kick out of it.

Please give your mom my regards. thank her for her condolences, daddy died in 77 quite suddenly.

So when you left the Bronx, where did you go to? I left when I got married in Dec 75 to Rockland County and have been here since.

-Chelle
