I got to this one late. I did not read the posts till today.
The corner of 165th and the Concourse; NE side was an empty lot. It had a big rock face on it. They built Young Isreal there in the 60's, I think. It is now the Bx museum.

Johnny-

Did you work at Executive Towers when it was new/newish? It went up in 1963.

I'd love to hear what you thought about the building/area; and your memories of who lived here.

Thanks

-Michael

I just came across this site. I lived at 1075 Grand Concourse on the 1st floor. I remember going to the Joyce Kilmer park on 164th & climbing on the fountain. I also remember the Lowes theater, the Y & taking the bus to Alexanders with my mom. I was 12 years old when we moved out of the Bronx but I have alot of fond memories of growing up there.

I resided at 1150 Grand Concourse "THE FISH BUILDING," my family were the owners.landlords and the family owned property all over the Bronx. Barry B., that wouldn't be Barry Blecher, yes, no??? The movie house on 161 was the Earl, my uncle Harry Brandt owned that theatre and over 100 others thru-out NYC. The Concourse Plaza Hotel is nothning more tha a Roach Hotel for the scum-bag, welfare trash that the Liberals have placed there wuth your hard earned tax dollars...

Hi all

I have friends in 1075 Grand Concourse on top (6th) floor... great building!

The Concourse Plaza Hotel was "bad news" in the 70's and 80's but that was because the owners took the large amounts of money that was being offered by the City to house people... so it was the owners greed not the City that destroyed it. The building itself is now "back on its feet" again; it's a senior citizens home.

Hi Michael,

1075 Grand Concourse was a really nice building back in the day. The lobby as I remember it was hugh. That was back in the 60's. I lived on the ground floor. I knew a girl who lived on the 6th floor. Her name is Vickie Becker & I think her dad worked in a funeral home. Many years later I heard they still lived there. I don't know if they ever moved. I also remember the Concourse Plaza Hotel when it was a fancy place to go. I remember going with my mom to JWV meetings. As a young child I though it was really cool.

Hi Mike... nice to see you too!

Mindye, I live in Executive Twrs (the big white brick 1960's hi-rise on GC at 165th) and I love the area... do you remember Exec Twrs being built? Did you know anyone in there? What did you think of it at the time? What did your family/neighbors think?

-Michael
