Hi Michael, I'm not sure of I actually remember them being built. I can visualize what they looked like before they were completed but I'm not sure if I am remebering it or if it was photographs of them being built. I remember going over there with my parents to see how much the rents were & if there were vacancies. I don't think we actually going to move into them. I think my parents were just curious. I remember they were very impressive looking & I think a little expensive compared to the $188.00 a month rent we paid at 1075 for a large 2 bedroom. It's funny the things you remember. I am guessing I was probably around 8 years old. Do you know what year they were completed? I didn't know anyone living there but my parents may have. So do you live there now or you used to live there? What ever happened with the nursing home on my side on the Concourse between 166th & McClellan? I rememeber my dad never wanted my mom to walk past there alone at night because a women had gotten raped. It was very hush hush back then. Just out of curiousity do you know what ever happened to Ralph Ventura? He is on here as 1055 Grand Concourse. He had posted a bunch of messages on here last year which I just recently came across. I lived in the next building from him but I moved when I was 13. I always wondered what even became of him until I saw him on here. Mindye |

my grandparents lived on Marcy Place right between the concourse and Jerome from the 50s to about 1970...there was a church/temple??? on the corner of the concourse, we went there all the time when I was young and shopped on 170th street...I passed by Exec Towers all the time going to YS in the 80s....

Hi Mindye- I live in Executive Towers now and have since Jan 2005... best place I've EVER lived in. Executive Towers went up in 1961 or 62 and opened in 1963. The nursing home is The Andrew Freeman Home - it's still there and the gardens are still lovely but the old folks are gone. It's now owned by Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council and they rent out the "main rooms" for parties/functions. The upper floors are empty. I think there is a nursery school on the "lower level" which is entered in the back on Walton Ave. So, in the 1960's are you saying that someone was grabbed and dragged into the garden? Scary! That couldn't happen now as the gates are locked at night. No, I didn't know Ralph V. Hope you are well. -Michael |
