Hi Allan! If you can believe this, My Wife took my Daughter to Camp today, and one of the Councelers had on a Sweat Shirt with the Orange & Black Evander Colors, that said "EVANDER TIGERS 1968"!! My Wife asked her where she got the shirt, and she said her Mom graduated from Evander in 1968! I'll see if my Daughter can get the Councelers Moms Maiden name to see if you might remember her. I'll let you know!! TAKE CARE!! P.S. If you know how I could possibly get my hands on & purchase an Evander Yearbook from 1971, I would REALLY appreciate it!!THANKS! Wink

Thought I was the only one looking for former Evander Tigers. I graduated Evander in 1969.
About 5yrs ago, visited the old neighborhood, the rent-a-cop standing on the front steps would not let me into the building. Said I needed a "pass", HA
Even though I was from out of town, he said I needed a letter from the Principal to get in, even just to go to the office.
Gangs of really tuff guys hung out on the steps and wouldnt let me pass. Made up my mind that it was not safe anymore.

I met a woman in a Chicago Lamaze class who graduated from Evander in '69. She's exactly two months and five days older than me and her maiden name was Weiner. We both had kids in a ballet class and the teacher went to Evander, class of 1955, I think.

I thinkit was 1944. Yes, kids, there are Evander graduates and also there were years even before '40s...about ten of them. My brother graduated in about '35 and my sister in '39. And my mother worked in the cafeteria.

I just thought the they were all beaten up by the Clinton students. I heard it was pretty bad in the 60s.

In the 60s my SON was at Clinton, briefly..I read somewhere..I think in the Clinton section here that many guys were intimidated by Clinton..and my son was. He managed to get really really bad grades and never brought his gym socks (heinous!) so managed to convince his parents that he's be better off elsewhere. He graduated three years later from Roosevelt. No piece of cake either..but there were girls.

My fatherwent to and graduated from Clinton in about 1910. His brother went before him...Clinton was in mid-Manhattan then and the family lived in Yorkville.

I graduated Evander Childs High School in 1974-The graduation ceremony took place at the Loew's Paradise Theater on the Grand Concourse near Fordam Road. Evander was a great school and I have some really great memories of that time. Would like to re-connect with old friends.
