Never lived there. I worked in the area for 8 years. My wife is from east 141 street and Ryder ave. I am going to tour the area on Sunday before going to the Yankee game. I want to see if those brownstones are still on Alexander ave near the precinct..if they are..I bet they are going for pretty penny these days.

They are still there, some vacant, some occupied. The neighborhood has kept the value down, so they are affordable. The fact they are smack between 3 huge public housing delopments in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the nation. Its good though becuase the majority of residents are Puerto Rican, keeping the demographics the same, and the rent down.

Some improvments, but the area still needs a lot of work.

Take pictures.

Mc Sherry's across from the 4-0 closed about two years ago. They also had a bar near the academy in NY. Wasn't Glackens west of the Concourse? What about the Picailly on 3rd Avenue?

Biggest fire I ever saw in the South Bronx was on Bruckner Blvd at about East 132 street..it was a scott paper warehouse..it burned for hours and the heat was intense three blocks away. I was standing on Bruckner and East 135 directing traffic and I could feel the heat.

Hey I was there too, small world. The whole block went up south of 149th. I'm glad the Hostos building on Walton didn't burn, thats the only thing left. The fire spread real fast. The other buildings walls collapsed on the streets, and the cielings also collapsed. Walton and Gerard Avenue between 149th and 146th are a mess. Street is closed.

They are still there now, they stopped watering it around 10.

Wait a minute, Glankens, I have passed by there, it's the bar on 149th, across the street from the Walton Hostos building. Near the bodega.

McSherrys, hmm. if it was across from the 40th, then it must have been on the first floor of that vacant building on the corner, well they just renovated it, but the storefront is still vacant.

Good old Mitchel Projects...ahh the things I have witnessed there. I know a ton of people living in those PJs, only projects I can really feel at home.

Millbrook, don't hang out around those, but go through there every once and a blue. They killed off the open street dealing on 137th and Brook at least in the daytime.

Cypress...still rough as always, I hang out over there every once and a while. Diego Beekman Houses.
