Larry, I WENT TO BOTH OF THESE SCHOOLS. I grew up on 175st and Popham Ave. Get back to me when you can, I'm wondering if i know you.
I lived on 175st off of University Ave, Creston Ave and Pelham Pkwy. I hung out on Villa Ave for a little while, I also worked in Mannions Bar on Jerome and Burnside ave for a few years.

Hi all Funny how time plays a game with you. How about Miss Murry Principal of 109 in the 50's anyone remember her and how she looked? How about miss Rothberg she drove a little Blue and White Nash Rambler.

She had to be one of the scariest looking people to an eight year old. Brown teeth (those that remained), what appeared to be two atomic bombs hidden in the top of her dress (most likely bought at John's Bargain Store), and a booming voice the shook the rafters. However, with her presence Miss Katlin only could rank as the second scariest teacher at 109. When she got angry at you she accused you of being a communist. Anyone remember Miss Boylan at 82? She could give Mary Murry a run for her money.
HI JEFF ,WOW DO I REMEMBER THE ATTOMIC BOMBS LOL, WITH THE FUSE ALL THE WAY DOWN BY THE BELT MANY OF the teachers at 82 I CANT REMEMBER . But A MSS CANARY WAS ASST PRINCIPLE I SAW HER A LOT,BUT THEN I THOUGHT SHE JUST WANTED TO SEE MY DAD HE HAD HER WHEN HE WAS THERE. AND THEN THERE WAS A ART TEACHER I BELEIVE MISS WOODNALE/. I remember Miss Murray's gigantic chest too. She wore some awful blue dress. She had white hair. The Asst Principal was some witch with a German last name, thin, steel gray hair. There used to be some bald guy as an Asst. (Mr Harris?) Remember assemblies on Friday? We had to wear middy blouses (white shirts with a long tie - red for 1-5 graders, blue for 6 graders) That was before school prayer was outlawed; we recited the psalms! Other names of classmates from 59-64 Jay Friend, Robert Feller, Barbara Sherman, Ruthanne Rushman, Raynetta Adams, David Nemens, Leslie Sutton, Jeffrey Levy, Glen Parsons, Dennie Wesiberg, Debbie Fried, Miriam Shustack...

HI There- I graduated PS 109 in 1958 and went to JHS 82 as an SP kid. Still have bad dreams about Ms. Murray. Had some great teachers in 109 Ms. Brown, Ms. Kenny and Ms. Simon. Even Ms Mc Donald but Ms. Zingali nee Mulligan was a different story. Had her in second grade and she said "I would wait by the hour for the ***** willows to turn into *****cats", and even my 8 year old brain told me she was an idiot.
Had Ms Boylan in 82 along with Ms. Woodnail for art and Mr. Woodnail for gym. Science teacher was Mr. Saunders--a nice man who had changed his name from Mr. Seltzer, which still tuck with him.
I went to 82 from 64-66 (was in SP2 and finished the three years of junior high in two years). I remember Miss Boylan--very scary. Also Mrs. Gordon, who taught science. We studied the eyeball and the carburetor that year, and she took us to the World's Fair on a field trip. Anyone remember Mr. Tlumack? He was an art teacher. He did a pencil sketch of me that hangs on my wall to this day.

Well-I just read all the posts-I went to P.S.109 when it opened-I was a t P.S.104 before that-I remember Miss Murray and my favorite teacher-Miss Boradafko(spelling may not be correct)-I spent my summers at the school-playing all sorts of games-Can't remember the teacher that ran the programs but he was also a teacher at Taft High School(Phys. Ed.-Super guy)-Went to the Park Plaza Theather-Ronais Deli-Got pickles for a nickel at the grocery store-A great place to grow up-Taught in the same neighborhood for 34 years-Watched how the area changed-LOve to hear from anyone in the old neighborhood-Graduated Taft in 64-Now married-have two grand-daughters-Retired and enjoying life-Any one remember Rick Farnham, Billy Blake Harold Dundish, Danny Lieberman,Donald Lewitt-All friends from Undercliff-All the Best-Gary
Knew all whom you mentioned except for Donald Lewitt. Rick and Danny were in my 2nd and 3rd grade classes with Miss Keudamond (Spelling?) Remained friends Rick through high school. I believe Danny's mother was the librarian at Sedgewick Projects library. I think Billy went to Music and Art. Used to play basketball with Harold at the projects. Not the playground ball one thinks of in NYC. A bunch of short, slow, Jewish guys who would feel great if they could jump high enough to touch the backboard. However, it was a lot of fun. Also, there were some fairly good handball players back then. One, Stewart Levy lived in my building and used to play on a regular basis. I don't recall anyone ever beating him. Also spent the summers at Shorehaven, which brings up another set of memories and stories. I left the neighborhood when I went off to college and didn't return when I heard a good part of the neighborhood burned down. Hope there are more out there who can update me on what happened to some of my old friends. Jeff Altschul
Hi Jeff-Stewart Levy and I played lots of handball-Schoolyard at Taft-Rick is living in North Dakota-He is a doctor-We are still in touch-We grew up in the same building on Undercliff-What is your last name?? I also played lots of basketball- small park near or in the Projects-Actually I stillplay twice a week at my Jewish Center -only half court-Cant run as much as I used too!! I am also friendly with Roy Satine and Sherry Stein-They are married to each other. Roy has a group from High School that he gets together with every few months-I'll ask him about Jeff. A. Waiting to hear back-Gary
If you can, give me Rick's email, I'd appreciate it. Haven't played basketball for years, but started running, cycling and swimming a few years back. Keep it up on a regular basis. I don't remember anyone from the old neighborhood at our age doing anything that resembled athletic activity. Most physical activity was confined to walking to the candy store for a couple of packs of Kent's, Luckies or Camel's. Times have changed...some for the better. I retired to Thailand two years ago and am enjoying the easy and relatively inexpensive lifestyle. There is a sizable expat community here, some with roots from the Bronx and the rest of the city. I make it back to the states once a year, usually around Feb/March. Keep in touch-Jeff
