Even though I graduated Clinton in '69, I was wondering the same thing about the DWC graduates? Did they follow the Evanderchild grads and fall off the face of the earth? Confused

I can remember all the football battles with Clinton. You couldnt even say you went with a guy from Clinton, oooooo weeeee!!!!
Hey, no kidding, it was a really severe year for both schools, all in termoil. Kids who were friends could no longer cross racial lines, teachers started to get afraid of their own students and passed kids that couldnt even read. Too many fights at the bus or the train stations with kids not from 'around here'. The war was still going on, free thinking, free love, the world was changing around us, and some of us tried to hang on to 'the way it was'
I believe the actual depiction of the what was happening in the neighborhood was in that classic movie "The Bronx Tale" with DiNero. Tell me you aint seen that one and loved it.

I graduated from evander in 1968. Hung out at the candy store on the corner. I don't remember much about the people since I was high most of the time. We had graduation at the Loews Paridise. I remember sleeping through most of the classes and could never figure out why the teachers never said anything? I did graduate thanks to multiple choice tests. I had a 65 average. I have been clean for 35 yrs. I remember 1 funny thing, a few blocks from the school walking towards the el there were some goats in a dirt lot.
I now live in the sf bay area and hope to visit family in florida in the next year or so.

GOATS ON GUN HILL!!!!! Yes, its true. Almost across from Immaculate Conception, there was a vacant lot, may have been a billboard. There was an old lady who used to live int the lot, in some kind of shanty, was there for years. She had goats, they were real skinny and wore bells. It was emazing that they didnt run out on Gun Hill Road. When you think about the history of the Bronx, it really was 'out in the country' compared to NYC. And there were a lot of wooden houses in the middle of huge lots and they had chickens & goats .

In 1944 there were fig trees right across the street from Evander. It was an ordinary sized lot and a smallish house with a great garden. All the trees and bushes grew up through whitepainted auto tires. That was a common Italian embellishment, the white tires.

Was the candy store..where I hung out too 40-44 still called The Sweet Shop?

I graduated Evander in 1971. Didn't even bother to go to Loew's Paradise for graduation. I just wanted out. Loved the people I went to school with, but times were changing. I grew up in that neighborhood. It had always been diverse and all of a sudden, everyone became enemies. In a time when people were preaching love and peace, we were having riots outside the school. How ironic. I also remember the goats. My father used to bring home live chickens, and kill them in the basement. My dog went wild. They used to sell Xmas trees across from Immaculate. Evander Sweet Shoppe was the candy store on White Plains Road. I hung out there. Growing up around Gun Hill Road was great and I still keep in touch with many people from that area.

I lived off of Gun Hill and Hone Ave. My family moved there in 1956. I do remember the goats! Then someone built stores and a large apartment building across the street from Evander. Some days, I could hear the bell ring for the changing of the classes. I was one of many that help girls wear pants to school. I also helped us wear blue jeans to school. Of course I took part in many of the peace demostations. I graduated from Evander in June of 69. I was also, one of the first to have long hair on gentlemen. And last but least, I won third prize in one of Evanders talent shows. More to follow. peace, Larry
