Italian Grapes,

I don't recall the name. I looked her up in my yearbook and couldn't find her. I was at Hunter in the Bronx from Sept.'60 to Feb.'64.

Should I know her? Were you there as well?

Thank you, Z.

Facebook seems to be the way to find people. Since I personally find Facebook juvenile & intrusive, I'll continue trying to find "lost" people via BITB.

I thought the word was "big", as in the "interest' you owed on top of the amount borrowed from one of the made guys.

Remember in "Donnie Brasco", when Pacino (as Lefty) was standing in the street and Sonny Red walked over and said to him "Are you gonna make the big this week", as Red's son arrogantly sniffed? As Sonny Red stared Pacino and Brasco down, he walked away, and Pacino said "I just s hit in my pants, right?"

Steve, the word is "vig", short for vigorish. Don't you remember Shakespeare's Shylock (a term used today to describe loan sharks).

Sandy,

Thanks for this. I looked it up on Wikepedia, and you are right. It is a Yiddish corruption of he Russian word for "winnings".

I onder whatever became of Bronxbob. He and Henrietta (Hank) Levine used to have an hilarious relationship.
