I'm willing to make a bet that the Bronx will come back one day.
We're all gone to parts unknown, and our roots are yearning for a reminder of what it was like to be living in a beautiful place.
Yet, ALL OF YOU MISS THE POINT.
The world is full of people and these people need somewhere to live, and guess what, they're coming to the Bronx.
So you have a new tide of immigrants taking over, and they'll work for nothing, and their properties are worth fortunes...but...it could never be like we rememebered it.
1959...that was a great year.

What years did you go to PS 77 & JHS 123? I ate my first BLT at Y & S - my parents wouldn't take bacon into their kosher home. I remember the bagel bakery on Morrison. Here's a bit of trivia - where was the library before it moved to Morrison?

Suuyuu your a few years younger than me. If I hadn't moved I would have graduated Monroe in '60.

The old library was one block east of Morrison and on the other side of Westchester.

I remember the sporting goods store - got a bat & glove there as well as a few baseballs, footballs and basketballs over the years.

Do you remember the pet shop on Morrison owned by a guy named Henry who lived on Stratford? I hung out there - I was really into tropical fish in those days. After we moved into a house I wound-up with four 50 gallon tanks and numerous smaller ones - Our basement was filled with tanks.

We belonged to the Young Israel on Stratford.

I'm sorry to see that this thread is so old, since it looks like there may be many people here I might have known. I went to JHS 123 from 1954 and to Monroe HS from 1957 to '60. I lived in a few places in that neighborhood: Metcalf Avenue, Bronx River Projects, and then on Boynton and Bruckner.

I do remember Jimmy the ice cream man. That's amazing that someone else remembers it. I went to the community center in the Bronx River projects and on Manor near Westchester, then to the "new" Y on Boyton near Westchester.
