My cousin, Barry Altschul, lived on Monroe Ave. during those years and attended all 3 schools. He's become an accomplished and reknowned jazz drummer and lives in Manhattan.
Does anyone remember the Waldorf on 170th? Used go there for burgers and hot roast beef sandwiches after playing some ball. Haven't thought about it in many years. Also, there was a place called the Chow Chow Cup. Probably the worst chow mein ever made, but when you're 16 and hungry, you'll eat anything.

Lived 2 blocks east on the corner of Clay and 173rd. (1957-65)..went to parochial school on Webster Ave, however spent many hours in the 70 schoolyard.
They did have some good desserts...But now that I think of it, the 167th St. Cafeteria had it all. Any time of the day or night there were great breakfasts (2 inch thick french toast from a section challah), steamship roast beef, sandwiches too many to mention, and desserts up the wazoo. The place was always packed and affordable for high school kids. Nothing like that today. I think it was right next to the Morrisania Hospital which thankfully went out of business before malpractice became the fad. My understanding was that about 2% of the patients there....almost survived.
