About 2 times a year I run new post hoping that I will catch the eyes of past freinds from James Monroe Projects, or anyone who lived there and or attended PS-100, Henry Hudson Jr HS, and James Monroe HS. Time period was 1960's to 1970's time frame. It would be great to hear from you and share some memories.

I attended Monroe from 1960-1964, and lived on Evergreen Ave and Westchester, three blocks south of Monroe during my childhood, through high school. Feel free to contact me.

Hello Steve,
Thanks for taking time to reply to my ad. I didn't get to Monroe HS until around 1967, so looks like you were gone before then. Regards, Steve

Kristine,
This is Joe Carosella from 179th St. My daughter somehow saw a message that you were asking about me. I do have an older brother Marty and he married Martha Savino. I think you mixed me up with my good friend Mike Staffieri who went to Cardinal Spellman and he was the rug cutter. I went to Stuyvesant. Our other good friend was Louis Soto who went to Aviation, his father owned the grocery on the corner of our block (179th and Boston RD)
It is great to hear from someone from the old block. Please contact me at geicojoe@aol.com so we can reminisce. Thanks! Joe

Hello Pops, Schwartz,
Pops, Thanks for reply to my ad. Sounds like we crossed paths in the neighborhood and school but your name is not familiar to me.

Schwartz, I do not know the names you mentioned in reply. Wish I did thought.

Thanks to all.

Steve

I just caught this posting. I went to Monroe from '65 graduated in '68. Heard Mr. Taub just past away a few months ago. Amazing. I lived at the end of Soundview Ave. a place called Clason Point.

Hi Edgar,
I see you went to PS-100 in 60's too. Sounds like we may have know each other. Do you recall any of your teachers names, like Miss Koenig, Miss Weber, Mrs Klien, etc. or do you know Stevie Dunne, Robert Durkin, Robert & Ruthie Pimm, or any of the Moore family, or Behar's?

Steve,
Maybe we crossed paths - I think I knew Behar (Eddie?) - Its possible I knew people from the Community Center. (The one that was right in back of 1802 (on Story) - my mother taught a girls dance class there back around 1963 and was the Nursery school teacher there for a while if you had younger brothers or sisters.
So I knew people who just hung around there.

When I grew up in the Bronx (Evergreen and Westchester) there were no Monroe Projects. Where and when were they built? I left the Bronx in about 1969 or so......

Hello Pops - sounds like we may have crossed paths if you knew Eddie Behar.

Hello Edgar - we most likely did meet being that you knew the Behars and definitely Robert Pimm and Thomas Durkin. At the time, I was good freinds with all of them, but hung more with Rober Durkin and Robert Pimm.

Guys - here are some updates on those we knew and you may be aware of some of these events. Robert Behar if you knew him was a gifted ball player. He could roof a Spaldine Ball over a 6 story building. I saw him do this several times. He got a try out with Yankees but by the time he got his chance of a life time he was on Heroin at the time, and tested dirty and thus ended his dream of being a professionaly ball player. He eventualy died from contracting desease due to needle sharing. His younger brother Michael Behar followed my brother Michael to California where I was living in late 1970's and I still live here. My brother Michael was shot and killed here in San Jose California at young age of 23 in 1980. Michael Behar was with him the night this tragedy happened. Michael Behar passed away here in California about 2 years ago due to throat cancer from smoking. The Behar's sister Catherine lives up norther California with one of my cousins, but I never see her. In regard to Robert Pimm, he is living in Florida and I talk to him from time to time, but his life continues to be struggle with alcohol, etc. His sister Ruthie Pimm, and brother Frankie live in PA and I stay in touch with Ruthie frequently. There brother Geoge also lives in Florida. In regard to Thomas Durkin, I saw Thomas in 2006 when we had a Bronx Reunion, along with othe Durkins, Pimms, Moores, Perers, etc. and many of our freinds from Talylor Ave & Story Rd attended. It was great after 30 + years not seeing anyone. The reunion posted looking for friends of Monroe Projects, guess you guys missed the notice back then. In 2001 I came back to the old James Monroe projects and brought my wife and our 3 adult children who are all form California. I wanteded see my old neighborhood and show them where I grew up. To my shock there was still people living there that knew me after 30+ years being away. I evern got to see my old Apt 3B. It was a rare opportunity to go back in time.

Best regards to all of you. Please keep in touch. Steve Dunne
