Hi Ronnie,
Nice to hear from a fellow Monroe and PS-100 alumni. I recall Mrs. Floman and Mr. Drucker too. Did you know the Behars, Durkins, Richie Titori, Moores, Pimms, or a Susan Sobel by any chance? Stephen (Stevie) Dunne |

Stephen, exactly where were the Monroe Projects? Were they near the White Castle and the library?
I lived on Evergreen and Westchester and went to 93, 123 and Monroe, graduating Monroe in '64. Steve ______________________________________________________________ Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other. |

Hello Steve,
James Monroe Projects were next to White Castle on Soundview Ave, also encircled by Story Rd, and Taylor Ave. Stephen (Stevie) Dunne |

Stephen that is what I thought. The only time I really went to that area was either to use the library or make my all-too-frequent visits to the White Castle. A straight run on the 42 took me from home (Evergreen and Westchester) to the library.
I generally made the White Castle trip as my lunch excursion while attending 123 from 1957-1960, when I transferred to Monroe, to graduate in 1964. That was, of course in the days when the burgers were 12-cents, so for about a buck I could enjoy 7 burgers (extra pickles and ketchup, of course) and a coke and STILL receive a few cents change!! My other trips to the Soundview area were made to transfer to the 27 to Shorehaven in the summers. What great memories, Stephen. ______________________________________________________________ Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. Yes, those were great times and memories. I was a fan of White Castle and now that I live on West Coast, you can only get them in frozen foods of some super markets. Anytime I come back to NYC, I try to hit at least one visit to White Castle. And the Pizza by the slice of course.
My family in those days didn't have much and we lived weeek to week, but looking back now it seems we had alot more good times and great memories then. Stephen (Stevie) Dunne |

Lucky you guys are young. In the 50's, can't remember the year, there was an outbreak of salmonella from White castle hamburgers and I never went there again.

Flatfoot - thanks for the history lesson, no sarcasm intended. As for me, not that young and born in early 50's.
White Castle is one of those places that you either love em, or hate em. I think the risk of getting salmonella poison is possible at every fast food restuarant, so WC is not the only place. 2nd, fast food is basicly bad un-healthy food anyway. 3rd, doesn't matter to me any more because I went Veggitarian for health reasons a year ago, so I don't eat at these places even if I wanted to anymore. Cheers and good health. Stephen (Stevie) Dunne |

Stephen,
Just curious, in the 50's, 60's, 70's did you ever venture down to the south side of Westchester, near Evergreen and Colgate, and eat in a great Italian restaurant called Luigi's? They had real good food, but their pizza, and Veal Parmigian was fabulous. Also, If you knew Monroe Billiards, on Westchester, between Evergreen and Wheeler, (NOT Stratford Billiards on Westchester and Stratford), it was owned by my father and uncle until about 1962 or so. Did you know any other stores on Westchester, between Evergreen and Soundview? ______________________________________________________________ Where love rules, there is no will to power, and where power predominates, love is lacking. Those of us who live in Monroe, if we wanted Italian food usually ventured down Soundview Avenue to Tony and Jerry's - less expensive than Luigi's - which I remeber because even though I lived in Monroe I went to PS 77 (took the #27 bus) and had a lot of friends on Elder and Boynton Avenues.

Hello Mickey,
Yes, I have been to Luigi's at least a half dozen times with my buddies. Great food. I have also played at Monroe Billards, when I should have been in class too. Small world. Pops, You are correct too, Tony & Jerry's on Soundview was closer and been there more then any other place. The good old days, gone to memories. Stephen (Stevie) Dunne |

Hello Eliabeth,
In regard to some of the names you mentioned, Cathy Behar lives in Redding, CA but I have no idea how to reach her. Her brother Michael died a few years ago from Lung Cancer, years of smoking. He was leaving near San Jose, CA at the time, married to a very nice lady who was also a Nurse. Take care, Steve Stephen (Stevie) Dunne |
