I would like to hear from anyone and everyone that grew up on (or near) the Grand Boulevard and Concourse (a/k/a "The Concourse"), especially between 1975-1975.
I grew up at (you guessed it) 1055 Grand Concourse, which is between 165th and 166th street, a stones throw from The Stadium (and if ya have to ask which one, ya definitely ain't a Bronxite!!!) Check out my new blog : www.1055GrandConcourse.blogspot.com R Rafael (Ralph) Ventura |

I understand that the Concourse Plaza has been converted into studio and 1 bedroom apartments for the seniors.

That's right Fran...a lot of folks back then had their wedding receptions at the CP. In the 50's and early 60's some Yankee ball players also lived there during the season.

I lived at 790 GC. The Concourse Plaza was a real first class hotel. Many of the visting Baseball teams stayed there. The Bx no longer has any good hotels, to bad

I can't remember the name Kgbee, what kind of store was this? Clothes? Hair? I do remember the Paradise lunchenette next to the theater. Dbob, I lived around the corner from the Concourse residential hotel, A woman was murdered there when I was very young. This was the first time I ever heard of someone being murdered in my hood, more would soon follow. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Yvonne, |

I lived on the Concourse, a few blocks from the Stadium, diagonally across from the Executive Towers.
Igf I am not mistaken, The Mick and Billy Martin lived at the Copncourse Plaza during the season. I remember the movie theatre on 161st off River Ave. The whole area has changed. Still have Stadium Lanes (bowling) and the Yankee Deli, but it just ain't the same. OK, here's a trivia question for you Yankee buffs: Pepiton on first, Mantle, Tresh and Maris in the outfield, Ellie Howard behind the plate, Clete Boyer on third, Richardson on 2nd, Whitey on the mound. Who's at short??? Clue: 1964. Rafael (Ralph) Ventura |
