Mike Smith, who died on Thursday aged 64, was the singer and keyboard player in the Dave Clark Five; the group had a series of hits in the mid-1960s, and even, for brief period, rivalled the popularity and commercial success of the Beatles.

The Dave Clark Five's first major hit, Glad All Over, knocked the Beatles' I Want To Hold Your Hand off the No1 spot in 1964.

The band members, who all came from north London, found themselves heralded as "the Tottenham sound" — in answer to the Merseybeat coming out of Liverpool.

"Has the Five Jive Crushed the Beatles' Beat?" squawked the Beatles-obsessed newspapers, and the band cashed in on their new-found fame by immediately releasing Bits and Pieces, which reached No  2.

It's sad to hear that Mike Smith of the DC5 has passed.They were a great group of The British Invasion of the 1960's.I grew up loving there music.Just the other day I downloaded some of there music.I still have there albums.The drummer Dave Clark does alot of producing.I remember seeing them on The Ed Sullivan Show.It seems like yesterday,Man were getting up there.There music will live forever,Like The Beatles,The Stones,Kinks,Zombies,Animals,Searchers,Gerry & the Pacemakers,Freddy & The Dreamers,Billy J.Kramer & The Dakatoa's,Moody Blues And the list goes on & on.Yes they went to GOD,But they left us with alot of memories nobody can take from us.Mike Smith is in a better place then us and in good company.GOD BLESS YOU ALL
