The Fl. legislature recently passed a law that addresses another egregious showbiz problem, groups who claim to be famous acts from the past. The bill allows a $5,000 fine for anyone who fraudulently impersonates an existing group or band. Groups can stil do tributes to a group
but they can't claim to be, say the Ink Spots, unless they have one member from the original group and/or are legally entitled to use the name.

The aim of the "Doo-*** Bill" is to make sure tha audiences actually get what they think they're paying for. Just as important, it prevents rip-ff groups from devaluing the genuine performer. The bill was encouraged by Jon "Bowzer" Bauman of ShaNaNa, who grew tired of imposters claiming to be him and of watching other phonies and fakers passing themselves off as genuine rock n roll legends.

That being said, The Innocents, have two original members and the rights to their name was sold to the group before my Angel passed away. This is not the same group as Kathy and the Innocents of "A Thousand Stars" fame, that group was from Ca. just want to clarify the difference between the two groups, everyone seems to get them confused.

It's really a shame that there has to be a law inacted to restrain the use of original doo-*** groups names. I have gone to quite a few shows where at least one of the members was an original and their sound was pretty close to the way you remembered. To think that there are groups passing themselves off as the real deal is appalling.

I remember reading about a guy on the East Coast of Fl who was impersonating a member of the group ShaNaNa, the original guy died in 60's but this guy on the East Coast, had the voice to sing and about the right age, no one suspected a thing, he even got himself a girlfriend and lived with her, he did concerts
signing autographs, had a website. Then someone did a little background check, he did time in jail at one time, he lost the girlfriend and was arrested for fraud. That's when Jon "Bowzer" Bauman get moving on this bill to stop people from impersonating other performers. Glad to see this is being done.
I think there are three groups going around saying that their are the original Drifters. I think only two of the groups have a original member and the third one is totally false.
