The best three that come to mind are "A Catered Affair"; "Marty"...both with Ernest Borgnine and of course..."A Bronx Tale"

Fort Apache was about the Bronx.

I like the film “Beat Street”. It’s about the hip hop, break dancing scene from the South Bronx. I think some scenes were filmed in the Bronx. The night club scenes were filmed at the Roxy disco that I used to hang out at in Manhattan. Also a friend of mine was in the film.
I also liked the film “The Incident” about two thugs(Martin Sheen and Musanto) who terrorize passengers on the #4 train in the Bronx. And at the end of the film in typical Bronx cops fashion, the police enter the train and beat up the innocent black guy that had nothing to do with the thugs. Fort Apache is cool, it reminded me of the 46th precinct near where I lived, except there was no Paul Newman type of policemen. Marty was also good. |

You can't leave out the Wanderers as one of the great Bronx films... It's my favorite film and I have probably seen it over 100 times start to finish... Thousands of times just catching it midway...
Also Five Corners (http://imdb.com/title/tt0093029/) with Jodie Foster, John Turtorro and Tim Robbins -- which isn't anywhere near as popular as it should be... Bronx Tale, Beat Street and Fort Apache are great too... --------------------------------------------------- Richard and the Young Lions? Ducky Boys? Fordham Baldies? If this garage band or bronx gangs of the 50's and 60's mean anything to you, check out Lantern-Media.com to find out more about them! |

Hi James and welcome to the forum.
Yes, the Wanderers was a good Bronx film. I like the school scene when the guys were insulting each other and the black guys started to sing Volare to the other gang guys. A question, was there really a gang called the "Ducky Boys"? Or did the real gang from the Bronx have a different name than the film name, Ducky Boys? I had a quick look at the link you gave and it looks interesting. I'll check it out later. |

I just read some of your web site, I didn't realize that it is your own site you made up,,,cool.
And I thought you were new here to the forum, but it seems like you already know of this forum. Also, your web site sort of answers my question up above, it looks like there was a gang called the Ducky Boys. |

Hi Yvonne
Thanks for the welcome... I've been around many of the other Bronx websites a lot, but not much on this one... I dont remember if I ever was here as a poster... The pure backinthebronx.com website takes you to the store, and I thought that the message board was long gone... I heard some rumblings about the BITB board, so I went looking for it deeper and found it... Steve of BITB is pretty much responsible for me doing the Ducky Boy documentary... I was looking for a project and his Loews Paradise video got me to thinking about doing something on the Bronx... And then while talking to him, I started flipping thru his catalog and came across the Fordham Baldies pawns in his chess board set and the idea of doing a "true gangs of the Wanderers" project came into being.. Then the Ducky Boys became a personal project for me (they had roots in the PS46 schoolyard across the street from my building on E 196th St), and i was hooked... When I finish the Ducky project, I'll move onto the Fordham Baldies one There were so many scenes in the Wanderers that were great... The "Volare" scene is great - introduced the term "obstreperous" into my vocabulary! --------------------------------------------------- Richard and the Young Lions? Ducky Boys? Fordham Baldies? James, I loved your website. It brought back many memories as I am much older than you. I have a question. The Paradise theater, does it still have the moving clouds in the ceiling while the movie is playing. That is the one memory I have of the theater.
Elayne I lived on 203rd and the Concourse from1941 - 1949, went to PS 8 and 80. |

Hi Elayne, When I was there, it was on a tour, so it was brighter than it would be during a movie... But they definitely have cloud effects there...They also were starting to poke the holes in the roof to get the stars effect...
